You have to set an ambush in forest. Then destroy them with club levies.

You just do something wrong.

Since they're your first enemy there's no point teching up to round shield swordsmen (which aren't one of the Suebi's better units, anyway). Your club levies should beat their levy spearmen because of your faction bonus, but besides that, you have to make sure they use their precursor javelins as much as possible, and make sure your own javelin units target their generals as much as possible because those oathsworn generals are your biggest problem, you don't have an easy counter. Club levies and bloodsworn etc. will beat them down en masse because of their AP damage but not without losing a whole lot of men. You may want to hire some sturdier mercenaries like wolf warriors if you can. Then you can throw javelins into their back and win the fight.

Too much complicated advice here, here's how you do it so easily it will feel like cheating, you don't even need any slinger/archer/skirmisher units of your own. First thing is you can't be defensive/passive against missile units, you have to be the aggressor.

1) Use cheap light cavalry to "fake charge" the enemy's front missile units, just enough to get them to start running away and behind their main line

2) While they're running pull your cavalry away at the last moment and charge your main melee units into their front line

3) While the front line units are engaged use your 5-6 units of cavalry to engage and kill the 2-3 units of the cavalry they have on their flanks. Their missile units at this point are useless because they can't hit you directly. Once you finish off their flank cavalry chase down and kill their missile units, then wrap back around and hit their main line from the back.

And that's it....
the goal is to push their missile units behind their main line where they're useless then close the gap and engage with your infantry. You can't let them sit there in front of their line and hurl projectiles at you, they'll thin you out in no time.

Then you are not setting ambushes right. Check the ambush success chance on the campaign map by hovering over it with your cursor. If you are just putting an army in ambush stance in flat grassland, then of course the ambush will not be successful. Put it in light forest where the armies zone of control covers the entry point that the enemy army will go through, and your success chance will be much higher. Putting high cunning generals or agents in with the army also increases your chances.

Great advice and simple.

Hang on Llyewlyn Fawr just tried to give you constructive advice and you call him/her brainlet.

Want a tip? Set your forces on a hill on campaign map and let them come to you. Hold cav back and use them to run down skirmishers later on. Then use your own skirmishers to weaken them as much as possible. Then you force them to fight uphill and you make them tired much faster. Then when you are Done with cav To kill their archers and ♥♥♥♥. Use cav to hammer and anvil them from the rear. And do not use cav against their cav. Lure them close to your skirmishers then whipe them out with em. Then boom There you have your victory. You need to make use of everything you can. Terrain, forrests, hills. Whatever. Do this and time your stuff right and you can smash the boii with ease

Do you think that I'm an idiot? Of course I put them in forests you brainlet. It says 55% chance of an ambush and they still target my "hidden" army to attack.
Well excuse me for trying to give you well meaning advice I guess.

I'm not the one acting quite confused as to why they are not getting a guaranteed result at a 55% chance though. Do whatever you want then. Ive learned my lesson for trying to help you.

The best tactic for the Suebi is to lure enemy armies into attacking your settlements and then have the Suebi women scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of them, making their armies flee for their lives and then slaughter them as they are running away. The Suebi are masters of lowering the morale of their enemies. That is their strength. Suebi infantry can't stand up against Celtic infantry if the Celtic infantry aren't demoralized...

You're the one who came looking for advice on how to beat the first enemy of your campaign on normal.
spartanspud Jul 14, 2019 @ 11:35am
One thing I would say is the game uses a seed system of RNG. If you do the same thing every turn the same outcome will happen. Try placing the army somewhere else.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
