Ambush?
Hello new to the game and I’m wondering how ambushes work? I feel like it can be devastating if used right.

Wub wub, there are two kinds of ambushes in this game. If defending, the ambushing army goes into the ambush stance and has a chance to catch the enemy off guard. If attacking, the ambushed army is outside of a settlement and in forced march. For either to work, the ambushing army must have the movement points necessary. On the battlefield itself, the soldiers who ambush are allowed to set up all around an enemy who will not have the chance to set up themselves until battle is ajoined. Btw, any army that is ambushed will suffer a morale penalty of 25%.

Okay that makes a lot of sense. It seems like playing vs players it would be really hard to catch them off guard but seems like I can pull it off against ai no problem

It’s not overpowered but certainly favorable odds in my opinion. You can take a weak army and eliminate a strong one. I prefer it most for isolating armies that are stacked side by side. Because the armies move one at a time so when the first one moves and gets trapped in ambush and then defeated it effectively isolated that army from the other and eliminated it. That’s called defeat in detail. To break up a large force into multiple small ones and eliminate them in pieces.
