Total War: Rome II - Emperor Edition won't download full game or launch
Hey all, I've searched through the forums for 2-3 hours and can't find a solution to this problem. I am trying to download Total War Rome II on my iMac. I already have 40+ hours of gameplay with this game, so I know it works. The problem is that I went to install it again yesterday and it only installs 637.5 MB and then says done. I try to play the game and it immediately says "Rome II... quit unexpectedly".

When I first try to install it says this:
Disk space required: 3125 MB

Then when I start to download it says:
0 MB/637.5 MB

After it downloads and I go into my steam game folder it says it is taking up 1.22 GB

None of this makes sense. The game takes at least 22GB. How do I get the entire game to download and launch?

These are the current solutions I have tried:
- uninstalling and reinstalling the game
- deleting all Total War Rome 2 files from my computer and clicking uninstall through steam
- verifying integrity of game files
- clearing download cache in Steam settings
- deleting steam and my entire game library, reinstalling steam and trying to download Rome 2
- restarted computer and steam

My computer is plenty powerful enough so I know that's not the problem.

My computer specs are as follows:
iMac 27-inch (2017)
Processor: 4.2 GHz Intel quad core i7
Memory: 40GB
Graphics: Radeon Pro 580 8GB

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game about 10 times throughout this process and nothing is working. What is going on?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Also, I tried the patch-17 trick, and it still doesn't work. It does nothing but update. The update is approximately 180MB, which is still way to small for this game.

Uninstall using Steam. Try deleting the appdata folders for Rome 2 and possibly try to install to a different drive. See if that helps.

Thanks for the reply Red. I tried deleting app data and I also deleted every Steam related file off of my computer and no luck. I made a separate folder and tried to download it there. It still only downloads 637.5MB and then says it's done.

I see that quite a few others are posting similar problems. Is CA aware of what's going on?

Also, I have read the stickies about problems with Rome II and problems with Empire Divided. However, the only solutions given are for Windows users, not Mac. I need a solution that will work for my system. Can CA, Sega please provide a solution for Mac users? The only mention of Mac is when they say to use the patch-17 trick, which didn't work.

Hi there, wondering if you found a solution somewhere? I'm in the same situation as you were. Sorry for the necropost but I can't find any solution anywhere.
