What if Carthage Won the Punic War,and Destroy Rome, they would need a better military,Equiping their Citizen(Carthaginian) Hoplite with Thorax, and their Allies(Libyan) Hoplite with Regular Hoplite Armor.
The Upgrade are mostly towards the Libyan, making them a Cheap High Armor Hoplite Units ,Perhaps while Rome has the Legionaries for Imperialism, the Carthage will have a better Garrisons, and Militias to defend their lands.
*goes and trains 14 full armies of praetorian cohorts* realism FTW
Aspis have pretty low defence though, so i wouldn't be so sure they can beat praetorians in prolonged melee.
Lol,I love my Egyptian Light Cavalry, and Baktrian Light Horse than those Cathaphracts.
Cavalry is mostly just a Support units,Even Royal Cathapract are sometimes not cost effective when facing Hoplites,or Cheap Spears, just because they can't get out most of the time.
so having at least Light to Medium Cavalry is better than Heavier ones.
I prefer melee cavalry usually, but royal cataprachts are beast :O Though i always flank with them, straight charge just doesn't work because they are too slow in falling back, and even though they have tons of armour, their defence is low.
not being sarcastic, but some Archers and Peltast can destroy them pretty easy, because high armor is useless when you don't have a shield, and remember that you're "Super" heavy.
it's funny to see that Macedonian Sarissa Cavalry is the best Early Shock Cavalry...
Wait,is there any early Shock Cavalry, let me check for a while.
Check out this picture, one or few thunderous charges really can turn the tide of battle :D

That was a city defense, (no walls) i waited until the enemy formed that huge blob of men trying to engage my infantry in town center, flanked taking out their skirmishers, and the rest is history! I still hear them screaming! O.o
