Carthage Late Hoplites?
I don't know what's so special about them.
all that I see was a +5 Base Armor for Carthaginian Hoplite, and the stats are the same, and +35 Base Armor for Libyan Hoplites, but the stats are still the same.

Silver, Thanks for pointing this out, as I had not studied difference prior to this: evidently the only improvement for Late Carthaginian Hoplites over Carthaginian Hoplites is the 5 point increase in armour quality. The upkeep cost over the Libyan Hoplites make sense, as you study the difference in the stats. However, this could make the difference against an opponent. R, Harper

At First I think this was a "What If?" Factor.
What if Carthage Won the Punic War,and Destroy Rome, they would need a better military,Equiping their Citizen(Carthaginian) Hoplite with Thorax, and their Allies(Libyan) Hoplite with Regular Hoplite Armor.
The Upgrade are mostly towards the Libyan, making them a Cheap High Armor Hoplite Units ,Perhaps while Rome has the Legionaries for Imperialism, the Carthage will have a better Garrisons, and Militias to defend their lands.

Silver, I believe that you are right about the "what if", as the reality of conquest by expansion is the cost of running the military as a critical part of balancing the budget, forcing you to limit the number of elite units in your armies. As economy grows or if you use mods to compensate, the upkeep cost of your army is less crucial. Good subject by the way. R, Harper

The Roman Cohort main Weakness is Cavalry, but Cavalry in Rome 2 are just Spear Armed ones(Less Melee Attack,Bonus Vs Cavalry),The Aspis I think can pretty much defeat the Roman Legions(Without Support from auxillary Troops)

Was a joke mate, no1 trains infantry only. ^^

Aspis have pretty low defence though, so i wouldn't be so sure they can beat praetorians in prolonged melee.

Yeah,You're Right, also they're pretty slow for Cavalry units.
Lol,I love my Egyptian Light Cavalry, and Baktrian Light Horse than those Cathaphracts.
Cavalry is mostly just a Support units,Even Royal Cathapract are sometimes not cost effective when facing Hoplites,or Cheap Spears, just because they can't get out most of the time.
so having at least Light to Medium Cavalry is better than Heavier ones.

kekkuli & Silver, Good humor by the way, and probably right about prolonged melee between cavalry and infantry. Better to hit in flank or rear, then retreat / regroup and hit them again. The game forces you to balance and disposition of your unit types to be prepared for opponents that have theirs way out of balance. The first time that I engaged a Gallic tribe heavy in number of cavalry units was a grievous lesson as they swept behind my lines, and same for my first encounter with horse archers and other missile cavalry. Enjoy and R, Harper

Yeah i had to test it, can't help myself xD so aspis lost with 82 kills. But i have some mods which make cavalry a bit stronger, so in vanilla i guess it would be something like 60-70 kills.

I prefer melee cavalry usually, but royal cataprachts are beast :O Though i always flank with them, straight charge just doesn't work because they are too slow in falling back, and even though they have tons of armour, their defence is low.

Royal Cathaphract,Pfft...
not being sarcastic, but some Archers and Peltast can destroy them pretty easy, because high armor is useless when you don't have a shield, and remember that you're "Super" heavy.
it's funny to see that Macedonian Sarissa Cavalry is the best Early Shock Cavalry...
Wait,is there any early Shock Cavalry, let me check for a while.

I think they are great, once you give them enough time in form of microing :P

Check out this picture, one or few thunderous charges really can turn the tide of battle :D

http://prntscr.com/en4xx8

That was a city defense, (no walls) i waited until the enemy formed that huge blob of men trying to engage my infantry in town center, flanked taking out their skirmishers, and the rest is history! I still hear them screaming! O.o
