unit kill speed too slow??
i barely played much of this game so after playing some total war warhammer and the way that battles happen and how quickly units kill eachother in that game playing a custom battle in rome 2 felt so boring. i was watching 2 sword units fighting another sword unit and there wasnt enough killing and way too much hits that did nothing. even a sword unit fighing a spear unit took a bit too long and wasnt very fun to watch. in warhammer when units are fighting they actually hit and do damage if they dont kill right away which is a bit more fun to watch then the constant poking and prodding units do in rome 2. i barely played a campaign cuz the fighting in the tutorial was even boring to watch. i know people have said in past games like in shogun 2 fights were quick but they were much better to watch cuz of the rate at which units would die. so is there anything out there that would speed up kill speed or more kill animations cuz thats my only problem with this game and whats making it less fun everthing else is great.

People complained Shogun 2 kill speed was too fast, so Rome 2's stats got higher.

People complained Rome 2 kill speed was too slow, so Attila's stats were cut in half. Now it's too short, according to some complains on Attila forum.

1 on 1 battle should last long, if that is what you are testing. But in campaign combat, it's not going to be 1 on 1, you get flankers, ranged harressment, and cavalry charges to increase the combat speed.

Also for the sword v spear combat, in earlier Rome 2 patches, due to earlier complain of too fast combat, they removed sword bonus against infantry, except for a few speicalty sword unit.

As for your test, no mention of which sword units you tested with. If it was with 2 armoured units, of course it will take a long time during 1 v 1. If it was with 2 t1 troops, like Celtic Swordsmen, it will not last that long. Plus if it was with civilized heavy units, did you turn off the formation skill? The kill rate is lower due to very few soldiers are fighting.

I've noticed the kill rate in Rome 2 is the slowest in the series, but it doesn't bother me because then you can make the fullest out of skirmishers (throwing javelins was more than just an art in the era), flank or chase down skirmishers/artillery with cavalry, change your front line with a new front line, flank and/or surround with infantry, have more time to make better use of the artillery...

So in short it just allows for more strategies or turn of events during the battle. Also, hoplites should be able to hold the line against anything without falling apart in just a few minutes. Hell I'm too busy during a battle to even watch them kill each other XD

Most importantly in a battle you'll probably never have a single unit fighting another single unit

When the game came out, everyone was complaining about battles being too fast. When Creative Assembly made them slower, people began complaining about them being too slow. My advice: either be glad they don't take as long as real ones (which used to go on for days and today they often take weeks or even months) or install this.

Dont know what ur talking about, battles are still pretty fast when done correctly (soften a bit with artillerry&archers and then flank) I in fact found the battles a bit too fast to my taste, and modded some units morale and defence up a bit.

If you find battles boring, you arent doing it right. You should always be trying to flank the enemy, and/or prevent them from flanking you. There is so much micro to do that if you find battles boring, you probably arent doing any of that.

Battles in that times weren't particularly fast or with lots of casualties... until one of the sides start routing.
You're supposed to cause the enemy to route, with flanking, ranged attacks, cavalry charges from behind.
Otherwise, yes, head to head the battles will take forever.

That depends whats fast in your opinion. For example, roman legionaries were expected to only fight for about an hour or so, due to all that armor they carried, it was really exhausting to fight longer than that. But it is true, 2 men both carrying a sword and a shield for instance, usually found it pretty hard to kill each other.

But yeah, i cant think of a battle ive fought that lasted much more than 30 min.

Back in the days empire tw battles used to last AT LEAST 30 minutes. It allowed for some tactics... Nowadays in campaign no matter what you do it always ands up into a large blob of men

i had to install a unit kill speed mod cuz i tried to play a vanilla campaign but for one of my first big siege battles sent 2 melee units up to the center of town to kill enemys which had all stacked in center on cap point and when they sent ranged and 1 melee unit to fight mine none had routed yet and that fight was going on for almost 10 mins so that when i decided to stop that nonsense

Almost 10 mins? Is that long time in your opinion? <.<

Btw, defender gets morale bonus when they are defending cap points in cities..just saying.

And in those ten minutes you could have moved more troops into position, or you could have tried to surround the enemy... You know, tactics and stuff

The entire reason I didn't buy warhammer tw was because battles didn't last long enough (walled siege battle with two full-stacked armies taking only ~15 minutes). Total war was always somewhat of a nice game, and they are slowly moving out of said nice by making tactics less and les important. I don't like that.

If something is important in rome imo, its flanking; it hits really hard to morale of enemies making them...well, die faster. Some people should try it ^^

Look up some empire total war online battles and compare them to warhammer. You will note the difference
kekkuli Mar 3, 2017 @ 5:33am
In warhammer its more important to counter unit types with their natural counter, and well...just to have stronger army ^^ but rome/medieval are a bit more tactical imo, that is why i hope they bring us medieval 3 next :/
