Splash Video alternatives?
I noticed that the drag and drop option for a splash screen isn't there as it was in Legacy. Have they kept it implemented via GML or removed it entirely? If they kept it, what's the function/code?

The splash screen can be changed under Global Game Settings then click on the tab for the OS you want to change the splash for. As for the GML markup for it I am not too sure I have not looked into that yet.

Alright, thanks.

Do you mean the splash screen at the beginning of the game?
Then Joff is right.
But if you mean the splash screen that was used for showing videos and stuff, YoYoGames removed this entirely, so the GML too.

http://wiki.yoyogames.com/index.php/GML_Functions:_Splash_Screens please refer here, asuming this is still current. Video splash is still possible, but keep in mind that seeing video will ultimately depend on the player's capability to play said video. For example, if your game uses an AVI, and your player does not have the codecs or drivers required you're going to run into issues.

Further more, the legality of spreading many closed source video codecs can sometimes come into question, and including even an open source codec could have the potential for mayhem.

Other solutions could be a splash screen manually coded in or opening a local html file which houses a swf.

I typically tend to hard code my own, but my games tend to be somewhat dated in design, focusing on mechanics and ideas presented in the 8 and 16 bit era. (My steam name kind of shines in this light) Nevertheless this could potentially serve your needs if you just need a logo that flashes or something, by converting the video to a gif. Which would also cut back on the over all size of your release, and with free tools like gimp you could further optimize that gif, if need be.

I agree with RetroFiends, if you want video, the best way is to use avi to gif converter, and some video to mp3 converter, but if you want this to be usable, you will need to lower the frames per second, and quality / size of the video, it can become very large very quickly...

Sorry for the Necro but avi to gif isn't the best idea. However, I have written an extension for GM:S that will play AVI files :) I have a free version (just plays videos - fine for most people) and a paid version that will allow videos to be used like sprites (rotation, scaling, etc...).

Works perfectly with Win XP, 7, & 8.

Feel free to check out my demo project at http://tgmu.win32developer.com/extensions.shtm

@ Lonewolff

Hey buddy, I am trying to work around a problem with playing a large file and I was hoping to use your extension. But the link is now dead... Could you possibly send my a new link? I sent you a friend request. Thanks so much :)
