This!
I can tell for sure that It really is very different... and much better! And that's why I love it.
I played it years ago from friends CD, now thinking to get it on Steam, always dreamed of good HD remastering !
I would really like to ask some questions about the HD version, in this topic if you guys\OP don't mind, before I buy the game (and pardon me for realy strange questions, It was long time ago since I played the game) :
1- Is companion\friendly AI good ? Will it use the guns I give and not sell it.
2- Are pirates balanced ? Is Dominator threat still the primary one ?
3- Do Rangers use good weapons, are other factions in some ways imbalanced\stronger ?
4- Do I need to babysit Rangers\coalition bases\worlds against Pirates\Dominators or they can hold the ground just fine ?
5- Is it possible to totaly anihilate the Pirate threat by conventional means - just by doing quests against them\roleplaying a Ranger\killing them and bases ? Or its WAY better to be Double Agent\become a Pirate ?
6- Is the game fine on 100-150% (as Im not very good or hardcore to be honest, way better at FPS then RPG)
7- Is the creator of the game fixing stuff\balancing it\reading forums ? How often is the game patched ?
I hope some Ranger comes along to answer this questions, as Im realy torn apart between avoiding the game or getting it.
2. Pirates are balanced if your setting are balanced.
3. Pirate weapons do tend to be stronger for long battles (10 days +) , but for short battles, dominator vertix + IMHO is still the best, coalition also develops some decent weapons.
4. You have to develop the remaining business, ranger + scientific centers at the beginning or you will lose all of them.
5. I'm on 150% difficulty and it's ok. (at 100 hrs +, I'm maxed on cash, and basically best equipment + weapons)
6. IDK about patches, since last one was April this year. I would think it would be patched every half a year or something.
Basically, this game is still a wait and built up cash stack game. Until the coalition comes up with decent stuff, it is usually too hard to really fight against dominators (without help anyways).
This sounds like me. Been waiting a while for this game to hit 75% off. Show that it was today. Instant buy!
