I like MotN but visual indicators of everything is mark of dumbed down casual expirience that ruins it for me, because it tells too much information that i wish do discover myself. Visible vision cones, sound radius and last know position is the biggest downside of this game. I know that in New game + all of this turned off, but i dont think i will replay this game at NG+ right after ill finish it on normal level. because i have good memory and all of these situations and levels would be familiar to me and i will just repeat memorized actions, so lack of indicators would not give me tension i wanted to have at first playtrough.
I was trying to talk about this issue with one of KLEI devs, but seeme like he doesnt agree that things like this dumb game down and that New game plus should be unlocked by default or its features should be added as switch in options screen.
Devs these days dont care about harcore gamers and realism (( im going to open new thread soon with detailed discussion of proble, and maybe if KLEI guys will see that im not the only one who think that visual aid makes game easy and dumbs it down, they will do something about it with patch.
Without tips like this i could give this game a 9 of 10. With them only a 7.5 of 10.
Im missing old good days of Splinter Cell Chaose Theory - that was the best and most well designed stealth game created so far. Thief 3 was almos that good, but without mods which turned off that consolish dumbed down behavior it was not so good as SC3 was, with mods it was same good. And right now Mark of ninja feels exactly like Thief 3 - core of game is awesome, but consolish-arcadish casual UI and visual AID makes me feel frustrated.
P.S. - dont get me wrong, i loved original DX (not for stealth to be honnest, story and variativity is what made this game a hit) and DX IW, but both of these games was never a real 100% stealth, they was dumbed down re-invention of Thief, with shift to brute force and rpg play style. Warren himself confessed to sneaky bustards that DX came into his head because he was not such a good stealth player and Thief frustrated him, so he wanted to make easier not 100% stealth game that would allow to continue game the brutal way if stealth will fail, so most of stealth aspects in DX was simplified comparing to Thief.
