I don’t agree. Alien 3 was the beginning of the end. I never liked the idea of killing Newt, Hicks and Bishop. For me Romulus > Alien3, but that’s just my opinion. I’ve only seen the film once.
Honestly I hope someday we get an AvP movie again, but this time base it off Blood & Stone and Life & Death comics or something, that would make an awesome 2 part AvP movie set if done right...Ahab is pretty badass.
Therefore, it's not the movie. There's other places to discuss that. But whatever.
Cry more.
ALIEN IS BACK BABY!!!!
Not only is this the best Alien movie in decades, but it is the best thing that's happened this IP since Alien Isolation was released.
This new film managed to capture the brilliance of the originals, while injecting some fresh takes on the established lore.
Its a shame a vocal minority are spreading hate about a genuinely great entry to a genre defining sci-fi/horror franchise, but that's what the internet does best sometimes.
TLDR: Alien Romulus Review:
Awesome Alien film.
Awesome horror film.
Awesome space film.
Overall Must Watch and I'm re-downloading Alien Isolation ASAP...
Is the main story derivative though, or is it a new type of story that hasnt been done before in the series? I'd rather something that tries to be interesting and trips over like Prometheus, then something thats just "You liked Alien, here's Alien with some new paint"
(the only time i've really enjoyed a "extremely reference heavy movie" is with Matrix Resurrections. If you try to shove it into a "Matrix canon" then it falls apart. But thats the point, because it being extremely derivative is the entire point of the first half. A case of "the studio wants us to make Matrix 4, so we'll show you exactly how it feels to be forced into making something because we care too much about it to see it get ruined ourselves". And because the final actual point of the movie is pretty positive overall despite its beginning. Ends up being a "we were put into a bad situation that we did not want to do, but we're thankful for revisiting and making some final points to the fans who looked into the overall messaging of the series".)
