Move slowly, and keep in mind that the Alien has moods.
When it's "just seeking/hunting", it's not very observant to how you move and hide.
If it's agitated, it'll start paying more attention to your hiding spot.
And lastly, if it hisses when it "sees" you, it's not lights out, if you can find a hiding spot a little bit away from where it saw you, it'll typically not notice you.
And also when you save, you save EVERYTHING besides the Aliens location.
It's mood, it's understanding of how you move etc, are still in it's "mind".
Generally, hiding the same way, or in the same spot is never a good idea.
And just because you hear it coming out of a vent, doesnt mean it's on to you.
It has a hunting/searching pattern that remains the same almost all of the time, and even if you're well hidden, it will find you after x amount of time.
When it patrols, it'll typically move past you 2 times(on hard) when you're hiding in lockers, under tables or beds, and when it comes by for the 3rd time, light's out AKA you're dead.
Best thing you can do is to take it slow, but not too slow.
Notice how it patrols, and if it breaks from the typical path it follows(like when it suddenly searches very near to your location) then it's a good time to find a new hiding spot or use a distraction or weapon(molotov or flamethrower).
But keep in mind that distractions and weapons agitate the Alien, making it more "frustrated" and therefore more likely to random acts like, quickly change directions, crazy ivans(moving in a path, then suddenly looking backwards to check if you've popped out of cover) etc.
Just a split second before I would have faced certain doom, I finally got my flamethrower raised, turned around and got just the puff of a flame on him as he knocked me over and vanished into a vent nearby.
One of the closest and most thrilling encounters I've had in this game.
Edit: Looking back, I actually directly stated that in Comment #13.
vsync causes input lag.
Ah. Something weird happened to me in that part. I grabbed the upgrade, Alien comes and, kill me, and the game crashes. You know, the infamous .exe has stopped working error.
I reopened the game, replayed that part, and the Alien didn't show up. Maybe the game crashing removed the Alien from that scene. Idk.
Screen tearing never really bothered me at all, I don't even notice it most of the time.
+No input lag
+Greatly reduced screen tearing
+Much higher average frame rate
