I don't think I ever actually went "yeaaargh!" while playing a computer game, before that in my life
However, what got me wasn't that... I didn't know/realize that the 'upper' vents the alien moves by also connect to these vents. So I moved past an intersection area when the alien stopped moving... then I heard a loudish 'clang' behind me and the alien HSSSSS.
I nearly had a heart attack when I spun around and there was the alien right behind me.... thankfully I was so nerve-strung I was lighting the way with the flamethrower (it's great for saving batteries! lol) and the alien hasn't yet stopped ignoring the flames... I screamed and jammed my fingers down.. wasted too much fueld, but I was absolutely terrified at that point. lolz
It was at that point it jumped back up and I fspotted the upwards vent that it had used to get at me. So yeah, if your crawling through vents and you notice an 'upwards' vent that is not climbable... beware as the alien can climb down through them! *shudders*
Framerate is perfect even on a 3 year old 7870 ;)
Anywho, my close second scariest moment was getting a security card off of one of the synthetics. Walk past a bunch of lifeless ones with the occasional one coming to life...no problem. Use the rewire to activate some gas (I didnt know why at the time but I cant help but mess with those terminals) and go back upstairs. Through the flames in the doorway I see 4-5 syntheitcs marching towards me....on fire......bricks were shat
However, my number 1 moment involved some clever AI on the part of the Xeno. Having the flamethrower made me feel invincible. Xeno runs at me...flame-on! I was heading through a couple of rooms and usually the Xeno ended up infront of me, walking past a door etc and a flame blast worked to make it ♥♥♥♥ off for a bit so I could continue.
I was making my way towards an elevator and low and behold the Xeno is infront of me....Id been making some stuff in the crafting system and I didnt have the flamethrower equipped so hurridly trying to equip it I notice the Xeno stare straight at me and scream......but.....it darts into a wall vent when I pull the thrower up. This shocked me....Id never seen this behaviour. I start to move towards the lift then get pulled into a ceiling vent.
I swear I want to find the AI designer and thank him for bringing this creature to life in a way that movies simply cannot compare to
Was moving low and quiet through a hallway, trying to duck past a group of looters. I thought I had the matter handled, motion tracker showed one guy, but too far in the next room to get to me before I reach cover. Unfortunately, the motion tracker glitched out on me and showed phantom blips, not the real people moving toward me. Next thing I hear is "Someone's here!" and a handful of gunshots ringing out.
And for a moment, I forget myself, gave in to fight or flight. I started sprinting down the hall, got about twenty feet before I stopped myself and slowed to a crawl, having heard the Alien the moment the shots went off. Under fire, I took the moment to methodically pace myself underneath of a medical gurney, just as the Alien tore into the looters. With them dead, it rushed to the last spot where I stopped sprinting and dove angrily under a gurney, the one beside mine.
Could have sworn my pounding heart about cracked my rib cage, but I was elated to find the Alien rushing elsewhere, leaving me to tap the button of an elevator.
1. top spot goes to when I'm in the hive. All the job with overloading the core in hive done. Running towards the door from the hive, exiting the hive. Suddenly sound as thunder like 10 tons landed in the water. Guess who it is, our friend Xeno charging.
2. medical lab the first time around scary as hell, been hiding in closets, Xeno comes when I did wrong with breathing, breaks the closet into shrapnels, if I release a button to soon closet goes into shrapnels.
3. beginning of the game, you simply did not know when Xeno enters the show
4. it's pretty nasty when working schmoe attacks you and then Xeno takes over
5. Xeno "maps" everyone it sees in a room and if he begun doing some looters and he has seen you, dont worry he will pay you a one way ticket visit
6. the speed of Xeno, sometimes like rattlesnake, speed of reaction
7. sometimes when I'm in the vents and Xeno is outside he goes away but comes to the vent and grabs me out
8. first time in the hive
9. project kgb or something like that
yeah some of the stuff above is pretty scary
1) the first big scare i remember was hitting the call button for the transit system just after the incident with Axel, and hearing the Alien scream in the distance. waiting for those thing to arrive were some of the most tense moments i remember in gaming (same goes for waiting for the elevators to arrive).
2) seeing the Alien crawl out of a wall vent for the first time, i'd seen in drop from the ceiling plenty of times, but seeing it slither out of the wall in front of me when i was sure it was above scared the crap out of me.
3) realising that EMP mines and the Stun Baton had no effect on the orange jump suit Working Joes. not a jump scare, but a big "oh poop, now what do i do?" moment. especially when there were 3 of them after me at the time.
Right before you talk the last time with Dr. Kuhlman i though when the Alien is behind the Door maybe it wouldn't come to the other Rooms. I walked back and checked the first Rooms. Always look at the motion tracker but no Alien. So i got more secure so i walk instaed of sneak then run. Only use somtimes the Tracker but no Alien :P . Good it stayed back behind the Door.
Then before i got back i remembered that i didnt open the Nurse Station Door.
I get to the Door for my safty i checked my Tracker. Ok nothing no sound of the Alien. Then i opend the Door and walked in.
ZACK right on the Door threshold the Alien Tail pierced throug me. No move sound from the Alien nothing only silence and then dead. I was so sure that it stayed back and then such a shock dead.
Suddenly i hear it sprinting in my direction. It knows where i am but i don't know where it is....
There was an unusual metalic sound to its steps i had'nt heard before. So is it in the vent behiend me? Is it coming up outside? Is it above me?
I was trying to look in all directions at once when an arm came from outside and dragged me out.
