Why does the Voice acting suck so badly in the DLC's?
Honestly, that's kind of surprising since the voice acting in the base game was great. It's not the Dev's fault though, they took the best people for the job: The actors from the actual Alien movie. There's nothing else they could have done. For that reason I don't recommend the DLC's stick to the main story. The main story I enjoyed a lot but the DLC's sort of let a bad taste in my mouth. Also it seems that the Alien's movements are clunkier in the DLC while they were pretty good in the game itself. Bottom line, stay away from the DLC, the game is great, the DLC's sort of ruin it.

well they all sounded old and tired in the DLC's cause they're all old and tired. Tom Skerritt is in his 80's now i believe.

the Nostromo logs in the main game sounded the same, i could hardly understand a word Yaphet Kotto said, he was slurring so much. Alien was 35 years ago, and most of the cast weren't exactly young at the time either. Sigourney Weaver was the youngest i think and she was almost 30.

only played Crew Expendable myself and i thought it was pretty cool. i doubt the alien's AI would be any different for the DLC, maybe the different map layout had something to do with the 'clunkiness' of the aliens movements. personally i didn't notice any difference.

The DLC is personally one of my favourite parts of AI!

It's kind of a big deal in my eyes that Sigourney Weaver is actually IN this game in both likeness and voice as she has been notably absent in any and all other games she could have/should have been in such as past Alien games and the Ghostbusters game (that especially as all the other cast members came back except her). Admittedly her characters weren't in those games narratively but i've no doubt that if any of those devs could have got her they wouldn't hesitate....especially an Alien game.
So..it's kinda a big deal and a huge vote of confidence in Alien Isolation, that she agreed to do this.
A bit of 'cutting slack' wouldn't go amiss.
I think it's her 'first game'...but i could be wrong there.

Voicing a VG/Animation is also harder than peforming for stage/film because your usually having to just say lines without much context.
Also, besides Sigourney, I dont think most of the Alien cast have been doing much work lately (I could be wrong, but certainly Sigourney Weaver is the name most known today) so having to a) act a voice in a VG and b) if not having acted for a while will obviously potentially lead to 'bad' voice acting.
Sigourney definately is the 'stand out' out of the original cast.
Also, that voice actor who mimics Ian Holm (Ash),gotta give him credit too!!

Also, let's be a bit honest about the main game voice acting.
I definately noticed a few cringeworthy lines from Amanda!
Not what she said, but the way she said them.
So, the main game ain't perfect either :p

I like the DLC for multitude of reasons, but the main two are:

1) Quicker to get into a game with the Alien (as opposed to having to replay the whole campaign) and it's more structured/plot driven than Survival (I feel a better sense of urgency when I know why i'm doing something..not just because 'game says collect 2 cards, lock down stairwell' etc.

2) As a fan of the Alien movie, it's a HUGE blast being able to play out key scenes from the last 20 minutes of the film..my favourite being Last Survivor...with Ripley struggling to set off the Self Destruct system and navigate back through the smoke/steam effects....Incedibly atmospheric..and doubly effective when you remember watching Ripley do the exact same thing in the movie.

So contrary to the OP, I advise those who enjoy the film to DEFINATELY play the DLC.
It's more structued than the Survivor DLC plus it has the nostalgia factor in overdrive because its all set on the 'movie set' with the original actors.

Bad acting or not, the experience as an alien fan is a awesome one!

They didn't need to give it to us!
it's extra to the main story, but they went that extra mile and got most (Ash missing, but well represented) the original cast together and they did it anyway, and personally I thank them for it!

Bad voice acting is still better than no voice acting at all. Take Ransome for instance. The guy doesn't say a single word, ever. Not even when he's rescuimg the civilian and the civilian isn't even yelling for help or talking to him, either. Faceless, mute characters deprived of any personality are way creepier, than the alien. I'd take bad voice acting over no voice acting at all, anytime.

So you think they should of hired experienced movie actors instead?

Thanks for the feedback guys! Sigourney Weaver's voice acting was fine, it was the others that sounded extremely unenthusiastic and unconvincing.

I thought the same thing. Sigourney was great, the others I think they could have gotten people to sound more like the original actors. It just seems *really* odd and creepy hearing a scratchy old woman's voice coming out of a character who appears late twenties to mid thirties.

It's a funny thing: this world of capitalism.

The main game left a bad taste in the mouth for the developers who made it.
And the DLC leaves it with the fans.

So close.
And then they choose DLC over any semblance of common sense.

They gave up too quickly. A common trait with developers not able to withstand greed's decision with the lack of passion in the moment they should have possessed to deflect it.

The problem I have with the DLC is the characters mouths don't move no body language when theirs voice acting going on.

I always view DLC as the only avenue available for the publishers to make back the huge amount of money they spent on a game.

Knowing this, you therefore know that the publishers believed in the game development fully and were convinced of it even in the face of previous embarrassments. That encourages the game developers to really put the effort in and spend that money fully to get the franchise out of the ditch it threw itself into.

Sales were disppointing.
To negate DLC existing at all, they are made with the core assets - regurgitated - with an insignificant budget (otherwise, you lose it all over again).

Anyone here who thinks it's fun to pour that much into a game (see Dead Space 2's credits) and you get lacklustre results, you're going to have to take fairly desperate measures.

Sega are not being distasteful for asking a pittance for the DLC - but they sure as hell aren't going to be begging for it either, so that you have any chance of seeing the next Alien Isolation.

I don't think that will happen, but perhaps put a little faith they had in the game when they were developing it, that you should have in it now.

The Survivor mode DLCs are clearly better than the two Nostromo DLCs, and voice acting is partially responsible for that. However, there isn't much they could have done about that, considering their age. Hiring someone else to do their voice acting would have been met with nothing but hostility.
