nevermind - i never understood the 1.00 - 0 scala
maybe its yards with a weird dot in it so the max range of 1.00 could be 30m equals 100 yards what would make sense to me
it's no unit of measurement at all, it's just 1.00 = max MT range and 0 = on top of you.
and I really don't think it's 25 meters, I was in a locker in one of those corner offices/reception areas (you know the ones which are like a square with 1 round corner and glass windows along that round corner), alien was just outside the glass barely 5ish-8ish meters away and was halfway along the MT
It wouldnt work in real life, but i think it's a function added by the developers to give the player an idea of how close the enemy is to finding you.
Basically you can have the alien stand on the other side of the room you're in, but the tracker will read 0.40 or something, and on the other end you can be in the other end of the map, and it can read 0.10 which is a problem.
Basically it goes like this:
0.90-0.98: Safe to explore, the enemy has no idea where you are.
0.80-0.89: The enemy is on the way to the general area you're in, but has little knowledge of your presence.
0.70-0.79: The enemy know that you're in the area, and will investigate every room in a random pattern.
0.60-0.69: The enemy know roughly where you are in the general area, but wont b-lin towards your location.
050-0.59: The enemy has an idea where you are, and will stalk very close to your location.
0.40-0.49: The enemy knows roughly which room you're in, but will take it's time to make its way towards that room.
0.30-0.39: The enemy knows which room you're in, but like before, it will take its time to get to that room.
0.20-0.29: The enemy know roughly where you are in the room, and will most likely be there very quick.
0.10-0.19: The enemy know that you're in the room you're in, it will sprint/move fast to that room, and will explore the room thoroughly.
Anything below 0.10 is sure to kill you, unless the enemy is a floor above/underneath you, which gives you a bit extra time to hide.
The alien however seems to find you quickly within the numbers 0.20 and below that.
Anything lower than 0.70 means it's time to hide, or make up a decision to fight back.
The alien can quickly go from 0.80 to 0.10 because it's very sensitive to you knocking over stuff, or making too much noise.
A general advice is to always have a table/bed to hide under when the display read below 0.40
It seems that on hard, the Alien always finds you in lockers if the display reads below 0.20.
Another advice is to always break the line of sight.
If you can see the enemy, the enemy can see you!
Doesn't seem right that it is anything other than the distance.
massive necro, but yeah I never noticed it go up with awareness only distance
If you hide too often the alien will apparently get a bit wise to it (I never encountered it even on hard...), you may need to get out while it's not looking and chuck a distraction.
I think that the Motion Tracker goes up to 20 meters (excluding the space between the cone and the edge of the screen), as that would make the most sense if the dottedlines were (5m) markers. That way you can easily judge your safe space for walking and using the tracker (as anything closer than about 5 meters will be able to hear your footsteps and the blips on your tracker).
Sorry but no, it's most definitely distance. I forgot most of the details but back when I played when this thread was fresh, I did extensive testing on it.
IIRC it goes from 0.00 to 1.00 with 0.00 being where you are standing, and 1.00 being the max range of the motion tracker - though it is never clearly defined exactly how far that max range is, you can get used to roughly how far it is by keeping an eye on it in-game.
