Stealth is pretty bad in this game :/
I was expecting a good stealth/survival game... sadly it's more of a corridor walking game with a poor attempt at stealth, at least when encountering other humans. It doesn't feel very well thought through imo. Pretty disappointed.

On the plus side it does feel somewhat like a movie and the tension can be pretty nice every now and then.

I dunno. Air purification systems, Smoke bombs, distraction tools, etc. Seems pretty stealthy to me. Plus, without stealth... that Alien would like to have a word with you why it can't find Ripley.

Well if your saying the stealth isnt measuring up, what bar are you putting it up against? How could it be better?
Strummer Oct 15, 2014 @ 9:11am
The stealth mechanics are designed to enable you to hide, evade, decoy and bypass. Amanda Ripley is an engineer, not a soldier and you cannot expect combat stealth gameplay involving things like tactical cover. You are almost always outnumbered and outgunned by both human survivors and hostile bots and your options are to stay out of sight or to get the Big Gal to kill human adversaries for you. There are no tactical combat options in this game, just improvisation, navigation and concealment. Confronting enemies is usually a bad idea.

Well, how about the very basics? Using shadows and maybe sticking close to furniture and such? The AI is pretty dumb but the controls for the player is also dumb so it's kind of a mess x)

I'm comparing stealth in this game with stealth as I do with any other game. Individually. But if I want to set a bar it'd be Splinter Cell Chaos Theory or Thief II maybe. Maybe Metal Gear 2 & 3 as well.

I've not come that far yet, but what I've seen so far is very scripted and pretty meh.
And as I said in the OP, I'm not counting in the Alien now. :)

Never said a thing about combat...?

Play some more. You will see that stealth is effective but it has to be imprecise or the basic premise of the game wouldn't work and the player could use it offensively, which not the nature of the character or the concept here. I am many hours in and I understand how stealth works in this game: it's defensive and non-tactical. That's the difference between "stealth" as stealth gamers understand it (viz. Thief, Splinter Cell) and hiding. In this game, you hide when you don't think it is safe and move when you do. If thwre were stealth options of the kind you mean, it would over-empower the player, encourage both combat and a level of certainty about the safety of cover and change the nature of the game. For this reason, I think they got their version of stealth absolutely right in this game but, as I say, it is better understood by being thought of as "hiding" because "stealth" suggests enjoying a degree of tactical initiative that is never granted to Ripley in this game.

Well if the A.I was any harder it would be impossible to finish the game as he's pretty keen already to your general location so i dont think "dumb' would be an apporoiate word lol. If anything i would say hes too smart as hes constantly looking under tables and opening the lockers extremely often. The stealth as Strummer said is exactly right, it IS NOT to kill the Xeno or gain the upper edge on him to take him out its a save your life mechanic where its uncertain hes not gonna drag you out.

This. I couldn't agree with this more.

Alright then, I'll take your word for it... for now ;) Maybe I'm being to rash in forming my opinion.

You DO know the game is available on:

Microsoft Windows
Playstation 3
Playstation 4
Xbox 360
Xbox One

...Right?

And so what if my profile is private? It's because I'm tired of trolls thinking it has anything to do with anything said in the forums.
But, since I made it private people tend to flame that instead. Oh, humanity... how you keep stooping.

AI is far from dumb (Alien that is), if it was any smarter, you wouldn't have much of a game. Controls are simple, maybe you are just dumb?

You say shadows? This is Alien, not Splinter Cell, it senses pheremones, rendering shadows uselss, guessing you're not an aliens fan then, also you can hide around furniture, beds, cupboards, lockers and desks are... Furniture.

You say the stealth in this game is bad, yet compare it to a game where you knock on the wall and someone says "what was that noise?", goes to the scene, gets bored and goes back, rinse and repeat. A game where the guy behind the security cameras thinks moving cardboard boxes are perfectly ok, a game where you gun down 5 men, run into a room with no exit, get in a box and the guards storm the room, yet forget to check the box.

*facepalm*

Reading your posts, you have yet to provide a solid side for you opinion.

I never spoke about the alien... please learn to read -_-
And I don't know about you, but playing MGS on easy isn't exactly what I'm talking about either.
Also, I said the controls are dumb. Not hard.
Yikes...
