Alien Not "Graceful" Enough?
Been playing this game since the release day, totally love it and whatnot, but am playing on hard and am a big wuss so it's taking me a long time to finish it. I do have one complaint, however.

In my time spent playing i've noticed that the alien isn't quite "graceful" enough for my liking. That very first time you seem him drop from the vent in the med bay, he slides out of it with such a smooth, alien-like slither that it really sends chills up your spine, and after that, all you see him do is clomp-clomp around like a bulldozer. I know that the scripted events are obviously going to come with their own unique animations, but aside from those events, he's just loud in general; he bangs around inside of the vents, stomps around the hallways, it just doesn't seem alien-like. Both the noise he makes while walking in hallways or crawling in vents and his general body posture while doing so just dont give me the impression that he's the deadly hunter that we all want to believe he is. Does anybody else have this complaint as well, or am I alone in this?

Now i've heard that the Developer, CA, may put out modding tools after a year or so when all the DLC is released, like they have done with many of their other games. Do you think there's any chance that these things could be "improved" through mods, if or when that day comes?

Just curious to know your opinions...

The regular aliens have that sleek, lithe movement, but the queen stomps around like T-rex. I see the alien in Isolation as being half-way between the two.

He doesnt have to be afraid of you. Nothing on the station can hurt it, so why should it bother trying to be sneaky? ITs been there for a few days and knows humans cant do ♥♥♥♥ so it can just walk around as it pleases.

One mission the alien actually ran right into me and kept on going.

It was that one mission with all the servers, some guy remotely opened a door for me to escape, and the alien went straight for it, and bumped into me.

The alien just doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥.

I just got out of that part when he drops down for the first time, and I couldn't help but say, "Oh, thank God, it crashed," when my game stopped working at the top of the stairs. I also happen to be a wuss playing on hard difficulty.

I think I would be alright with the alien making some decent amount of noise, just to keep you afraid. Noise is also probably good when you are hiding and don't have/can't use the motion tracker, so you can tell when the alien is safely far away or about to rip your face off.

I don't think its a matter of not needing to be sneaky, I just think that, as Doggzilla said, he doesn't have that "Sleek, Lithe movement" that we've all become accustomed to seeing with every alien aside from the Queen.

A cat still stalks a mouse the same way he stalks more dangerous prey. The level of danger associated with hunting that particular animal doesn't matter, stalking a specific way is just in his nature.

Know what i'm saying?

I would tend to agree with you in terms of its stalking, killer instincts, but it certainly didn't develop those instincts in a metal space station full of small vents. Note that I'm not a big Alien series fan, so I can't speak to how canon or out of place it might seem in comparison.

Unlike the Xenomorph in the 'Alien' film, this one is somewhat larger and as such weights quite abit more which would account for the heavy stomping. Also, keep in mind thats probably a game mechanic designed to allow the player to have an idea where it is without having to stare at the motion tracker 24/7.

It still looks pretty graceful to me, but also with a much stronger feel of brute strength and power. Its ability to utterly destroy anyone who messes with it with ease is also graceful in its own way. Quite facinating to watch.

The Xenomorph from the film was also blatantly a guy in a suit, so anything should generally be considered an improvement, lol.

Is it actually intended to be larger than the one in the original film? I know that the devs did make slight adjustments to the legs and feet to make them more "alien" like in movement and appearance whle animating it, but I was always under the assumption that it was supposed to be the same size as the one in the movie.

I believe it is suppose to be larger. There was a theory put forward some time ago that the alien may have been the same one from the original film somehow. (how the hell someone even came up with that crap theory i dont know). But iirc it was confirmed by the dev's to be a different alien and a larger one at that.

You mean it wasn't a real live xenomorph? You've ruined that film for me now!

It seems like more of a gameplay thing to me. I'm up to the first section where hes actually patrolling around after dropping out of a vent in the medical section and the footsteps certainly help with figuring out where he is, its also quite scary when you hear him stop walking, everything goes silent, then you hear much louder faster footsteps.

Not sure I agree with the Alien being bigger though, a typical Soldier Xenomorph is supposedly around 8 feet tall when standing. Queen is nearly Twice that, If we take the player character as being somewhere between 5'9" and 6'0" the Alien couldn't possibly be any bigger than 8 or 9 feet tall. Also, before Aliens mature into Soldiers, they start off as "Drones", basically like a worker ant or something. Those guys are around 7'0" and have the smooth head, much like the Xeno in Isolation. My guess is that as a lone Alien, having grown up on the station,, hasn't learnt the stealth/pack hunting abilities of the Xenos shown in Aliens, because it is a loner. Its possible that after this long of hunting and stalking around the ship, it has adopted or evolved a new hunting style, based on its current prey.

All guesswork obviously, I imagine the real reason is the one already touched on, its a simple gameplay element so we don't have to look at our motion tracker 24/7. It also helps give that immediate sense of danger, which you don't get when you can't tell if your enemy is around at all.

You also have to remember that the the way the alien looks and moves depends entirely on its host. That's why the one in Alien 3 looks and moves differently to the ones in Alien(s) - in the first two movies the aliens all gestated in human hosts, but in 3 it gestated in a bull (or a dog if you watch the theatrical release).

I have no idea what species' chest this one burst from. Something bigger than us that's for sure.

Bigger doesnt just have to be height, it can also mean overall body mass. maybe its just me but it certainly looks meater than the alien in the film. But then that could be down to it having alot more prey to eat by the time Amanda arrives on the space staion. However, i was referencing just the original Alien film, so i dont know how it would compare on average with all of the other canon created by the later films.
