Puzzle broken or missing something? (small spoilers)

I am supposed to "Activate Observation Platform" to contact the ship waiting outside. The puzzle says match input keys and press enter. Yet damned if anything actually works.

I am thinking its some sort of hellish simon says game? Where there are no different colors, no indictaors when the sequence has actually ended? Or is it really supposed to be as simple as hitting the movement keys to match the flashing indicators? (If so its not working for me)

11 minutes and 54 seconds in it shows the puzzle I am talking about. From the looks of the thing, it should be simple.. but nothing seems to work.

When the direction highlights with text, use WASD to "fill in" that block, then press "enter." This will "lock" the text. Do this for all 4 directions. If you mess up, it resets.

Thanks, I think I was hitting them to fast. Going much slower and following what you said it worked like a charm.
