Can you Free Roam?
So, I'm kinda at the middle of the story at the moment and realised that, you can easily not follow the quest and just get a transit to previous areas or wherever the ♥♥♥♥ you want.
I am wondering if, after finishing the game you can actually Free Roam the whole station.

NO spoilers please!

PS:
The game is awesome so far, it's the second game after Outlast that made me whine like a little girl. Especially during the first 2 hours, however now I'm used to the Alien's routine/tactics so it's more like adventure and not horror *Flamethrower FTW*

Thats the unlimited dlc potential there.
You could make a dlc using any of the missing persons on sevastopol and their fight for their lifes. It would get a bit stale really quick. But the marshalls Waits/Ricardo or Lingard or whatever the name of the doctor was could offer you that alternative view on / of sevastopol.

I would love to play as a Seegson android that isn't linked to Apollo, and that is following it's human defence protocalls. Possibly some executives personal synthetic or something... yeah stupid idea I guess...

Would be cool to lay the beat down on those Joes on equal terms though. hahaha

It would be great if you could free-roam at a time when the ♥♥♥♥ didn't go down yet, so there are still people everywhere working, and going about their daily business, that I'd love.

Yes, absolutely. I would have loved this at the beginning. Arrive in Sevastopol when it is still working and build a connection with the place. Then the impact would have been even more when you get to see the station all broken down and dangerous. Like "Hey, that's the spot where I went to the bar one time, oh man, it's all gone to ♥♥♥♥. Damn!"

But yeah, I doubt many people except me would want something like that. Almost every review I've read is saying "It takes soo long until you meet the Alien blabla..." Gamers do not want to give the time to develop things. It has to be action action boom boom right away for the most people.

Yes it was the same for me, I'd have gladly explored the station even further without meeting the thing. And It took me 3 hours to first meet it as it is. I was taking in the sights and measured my every step as I didn't know what to expect and when to expect it.

What would be incredible would be to see Sevastapol Station as it would have been before everything went to hell.

Yeah... I'd love that too.

That would be awesome. It's what I had in mind when I first entered Sevastopol. The place is AWESOME. I hope some sort of DLC could let us explore the whole thing without worrying about the Alien at least. (I am fine with synthetics and humans).

Still an awesome game. Finished it on hard.

I recommend roaming and backtracking only during Mission 16, because that's the moment you have all the items needed to open all doors. To save you time, the places you must visit for blueprints, ID tags and Nostromo logs are Gemini Exoplanet, Engineering's Workshop, Seegson Synthetics and the Server Farm.

Anyone that thinks it takes too long to see the Alien would hate the movie. Kane doesn't get his face hugged until 30 minutes in. Doesn't get chest bursted until 56 minutes in (this is the shorter 'director's cut' version even). The alien shows up for the first time proper at 1:07. Ripley is back in her cryotube at 1:52.

If the game took the same pace as the movie, we wouldn't be seeing the alien at all until mission 10.

There have been so many calls for this from gaming journos and fans alike that I would be surprised if CA doesn't offer it as a free option. It seems like it'd be simple from a programming angle, just remove all the AI characters and boom, free roam.

Although alternatively I'd love if they kept all the AI characters in and just made them so they didn't attack you. It'd be great to wander around the station and see the alien and be like, "Hi, how's it going?" But still have the alien attack people, so you can stand back and admire the carnage.

If I was reading it right, you can eject the alium and have free reign over the station until you get to the hive. If that's true then you can easily backtrack to grab all the intel you missed up until then.

Yeah, I've heard a free, no-aggro "exploration mode" get mentioned periodically. There were a couple threads on here earlier talking about possible ways to mod/hack it. Unfortunately, nothing ever seemingly came of it.

There's lots of times that you can free-roam as much as you like, but the best times to do this are just after you have completed a mission and are able to access a transit hub (i.e. the mission you just completed isn't part of a chain of missions that keep you moving from one area to the next without being able to get back to a transit hub).

After you have completed any mission where you can access a transit hub afterwards, the alien will be in lurking mode. You'll hear it stomping about in the vents, but in the vents it will stay, unless you make a noise. So don't run, use noisy weapons, or bump empty beer cans etc. Also, don't move to exact point where the next mission will start as indicated on your map, as this will often trigger the alien to go back into hunting mode.

If the alien stalking you from the vents still makes you nervous, even though you are perfectly safe if you make no noise, you can back track after you have completed mission 10, the alien will be 100% totally gone at this point all the way until the start of mission 14, but you won't have many tools at this point so there will still be plenty of areas that are off-limits.

At some point mid-mission 17 you'll no longer be able to back track, so do your exploring before then. As others have stated, once you get the final hacking tool upgrade at the start of mission 16 you will have all of the tools required to explore all available areas of the station.

There is always a way to explore but some transits seem to be unavailable after some missions, and then are available again. Anyway, I believe a specific exploration mode would be awesome. One in which life in Sevastopol is normal, before ♥♥♥♥ happen.
Or at least have a specific explore-the-whole-station mode freely without using exploitation, while enemies are still there, perhaps with more human enemies/friendlies, etc.

You can now truly freeroam by disabling the Alien (and Android/Facehugger) AI. They will still spawn and will not break the game. They will simply not act. It's great for when you finished the game and want to explore every nook and cranny without being interrupted by deathly fear. ;)

Simply put the *hacked* files in this location: Steam\SteamApps\Common\Alien Isolation\DATA\CHR_INFO\ATTRIBUTES

Be sure to rename them before copying since you need to overwrite the original files. For safety, the originals have been uploaded too.

Enjoy the walks. :)
