Trust me dude is takes way more guts and strength to kill someone by repeatedly hitting him with a wrench than by pulling a freaking trigger. And by the way I find the gun quite useful when it comes to taking down baddies.
This is just poor game design, like not being able to climb or jump over things. Although aside from that the game has made it into my favorite´s list.
If devs didn't want us to have the gun yet, they should have come up with another way for enemies to have weapons, like maybe a stun gun that is keyed to the security personal of the station, or something like that. The fact that it is a survival situation, and I have ammo for the gun and see the gun on the ground but I am unable to pick it up is frustrating.
You get the revolver like 30 seconds after that in the security office. But it's kind of a trick/troll by the developers because the revolver is probably the least effective weapon in the game. Throwing a flare to distract humans/robots/alien is much more effective than shooting them, which lets everything around you know exactly where you are.
For the love of God, you bought a STEALTH GAME, and the first thing you do when you encounter the VERY FIRST group of enemies that can kill you... is beat them to death with a wrench? It's a stealth game. They have guns and you don't. When I reached that part of the game for the first time I sneaked past them because it's a stealth game and they had guns and I didn't. I threw a flare down in the lobby and walked to my destination.
If you're going to think "time to smash some skulls in" every time you meet enemies you may as well play a non-stealth game.
I know. And it's a shame because if you play the game as it's supposed to be played - as a stealth game where hiding and distracting are your best weapons - then you feel the game as it's supposed to be felt.
The only time you start using your weapons is
*spoilers below*
Half way through, when the alien goes away for a while and all your enemies are humans/androids. When I reached that part I had used so little ammo that all my guns were maxed out.
Yup. Hostile humans point their guns at me and I think "right then, you bastards, see how you like this" then I bang on the wall with the wrench and hide in a locker and laugh as they all get torn to pieces.
I love this game.
Oh yeah, smashing the wall with the wrench makes all kinds of noise. Or just do a little sprint in front of your hiding place then jump in the hiding place. No need to waste a bullet! =D
Before I get flamed I'm just saying it kind of breaks the really cool atmosphere of the game as suddenly there is this ghost item in front of me which I am apparently dumbfounded by and cannot interact with and then it just vanished. I've never handled a gun, but I am pretty sure I could pick one up and pull the trigger.
I don't need the gun that bad, but a really great game which has sucked me right in suddenly confused the hell out of me. It just seems weird and spoils the flow slightly. If I am not due to get the gun yet, just give the NPC's wrenches.
Other than that it is a fantastic game so far. Well done.
I understand why you would want to shoot a gun considering your enemies have them, but that's not the intent the developers were going for. It's not an excuse to kill the immersion like this but it is something that may help as you play.
I'm sure they wanted us to think more instead of just shooting everything that walks.
The revolver is kind of a troll anyway - especially on hard/nightmare difficulty. You get the revolver (a few minutes after you see one laying on the floor and you can't pick it up) and you feel safer because now you have a gun.
Then you fire it and all it does is get you killed because the alien can hear it trolololol
Seriously the stealth in this game is awesome, the gunplay is like 2% of the game.
Kill the humans, you dumb ♥♥♥♥!
Aww! I love you too bro!
But you won't be able to do that until many hours after you find it, because shortly after you find it the alien comes to play with you and doesn't leave for several levels after.
Maybe he needs a easier game like Dark Souls
