No safety for the photosensitive ??
I am hearing that Alien Isolation has momemts that would not be suitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy. I am one of those people but I manage well with all games so far regardless of how fast paced etc.
My last seizure was over 2 decades ago but a strobe type flash will trigger one and that scanres me.
If Alien Isolation has flashy moments then ok. But is there not an option to tuwn those off ?
I have seen a game have this option and I thought it was very respectful that they did that.
I am sure they are not essential.

I do want to get this game so I would appreciate any advice.

Have a look here as a short (not great) example. The lights start at around 6 mins 40 seconds.

What was your form of epilepsy?
Rusty Dog Oct 9, 2014 @ 2:46pm
I used to have them just happen but then I got older and it would only happen when I got close to the old TVs (flatscreens are ok). Now It will just be triggered by strobe lights etc. I think those yellow whirring ones might be tolerable.

Depending on what you consider "strobing" you may want to check out some more youtube vids, since later in the game there are morde intense sequences of lights flashing, electrical discharges in pitch black environment, etc.

You may want to find them, I couldn't :-)

CRT televisions and old computer screens? You had these when you were a teenager correct?

There are some strobe-like light effects in some parts of the game (I think the flashing blue lights in a couple of sections would be most likely to present most risk, more so than the whirling yellow lights).

They aren't in the game often, and where I've come across them so far they're quite short, but yeah they are there so might be problematic if you're prone to flashes. They're not as fast flashing as true strobe lights, and are kind of like the flashing blue lights from the actual films (very reminiscent, they did a great job of capturing the feel). If you watch the films okay without reaction, you'll probably be okay with the game too, though of course you'll be sat closer to the screen which makes a difference in these things.

There's no way of disabling them from options that I can see and you can't play through the game without those sections.

^ that's my non-expert info, best check with doc for guidance.

There are alot of parts in game where the lights will go out and emergency lights will come on and blink, rotate, flare, and flash. I have no clue why people are saying there aren't bad parts because it's a lie. You will encounter these parts every hour or so.
I would strongly reccommend staying away if you have any form of epilepsy

I used to have epilepsy only triggered by CRT screens, so your statement of staying awawy regardless may ring false.

if you have gone 2 decades without a seizure you will likely be fine, none of the blinking in this game is as bad as some claim it to be.

Had it since I was 7. It died down in my teens with new medication. After that only looking close at old TVs and strobe lights would trigger one. Lack of sleep is also a trigger if I lack over consecutive days.
I'm 48 now.

Thank you for all your comments and understanding guys, much appreciated.

I guess if I feel up to it I might give it a go. I can always look away at any bad sign and call it a day. I understand that the game requires some of these effects.
Is there a warning on startup of the game btw ?

No warning on startup but all games have standard warnings from steam on the purchase page anyway.

I'd say you're pretty safe with this. I'm doing my second playthrough at the moment and I can't think of any intense flickering lights; at least nothing that would be troublesome. It's such an awesome game, I urge you to give it a shot! =)
