Some parts are scripted - for story - but, in general, the sucker is random.

Spoiler

About 2 hours in the alien is scripted not to attack you at all. I'm taking my time with it.

Actually, I would say it is a nice mix of both... Scripted AND random... the AI acts extremely random and unpredictable, but some events are automatically triggering the Alien Acitivity... Experience taught me not to use the run-key if its anywhere near... it immediately hears my steps and starts hunting... that's why i play extremely slowly... and with my pants full :/ I like, that it is not predictable (after several times dying though, you will find a way)...

you know what have been even better is if the alien can kill you like how it did to brett in alien where it was behind him getting ready to strike. it would have been even more terrifying.

Yea I want that where it can hold you then salivate and crowl at you for 5sec before the kill. There's a deleted scene in Alien where it crushed Brets head in with both hands.

Haven't played yet; installing now, but from what I read it sounds like outside of story driven scenes the Alien is dynamicly huntung you. It also looks like it will interact with other baddies onboard the ship.

It does indeed take out other humans while you watch if you have a hiding place to watch.

The Xeno is unscripted. That is what makes him terrifying.

At almost any point, if you hear something scurrying around in the floor / ceiling and you make a loud noise, you can expect a bad time. ;)

I've just got to a part of the story where the alien is now allowed to free roam about and kill me if it knows I'm here. Upto hear is a story plus lots of hints on how the alien behaves and how it shows on the scanner and usees the ventelation shafts which also play havoc with the scanner because the scanner is 2D it can't tell you if the blob on it up ahead or around the corner is in the corridor or above in the shaft.

Where I've just got to.
I walked up a corrodor it droped down from a rent shaft I walked slowly down some steps, that I was already on peeping over. Thats why it didn't see me but at the time I didnt know that. I crouched and walked slowly around a wall out of sight. I came back for a look and it was at the end of the corridor not showing on the scanner because that only detects things that are moving.

It spotted me and ran at me I ran which is noisy and got in a room. The auto door is noisy too these are all bread crumbs for the Alien. I know this because I've seen the video and read interviews about how the Alien AI works. I got into a locker which involves a loud slamming of the door shut. I waited for a while and it came in a bit later than expected had a look around the room It came near the locker but didnt open it.

You can press walk backwards to lean back in the locker and scanner off makes you silent to anything thats very close. maybe those two things saved me. It left the room. I don't want to leave the room now the auto door is noisy.

It's both. Some parts are scripted and some parts are completely random.

It takes about two hours to actually see the alien but after the point when you see it it can kill you. You quickly learn that nowhere is safe and the only way to avoid the alien is in scripted areas where it's not supposed to be(Which seems to be few places at the moment). Outside of scripted areas the alien is always around even if you're quiet he can get you. The only times i've noticed the Alien get you when you're quiet is if it's already out and about and you're in plain sight or you crawl under a vent it's looking down from(You can see it's drool dripping down from the vent -- avoid them during this).

Other than that outside of scripted events you can walk until you hear a beep from your motion tracker at which point you stop until it stops completely. If you want to move freely just crouch and the Alien won't come out but it will rustle in the vents.

The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cockroach is both unscripted and relentless.

The AI is heavily scripted, at least in the beginning. Although the Alien might use random paths, will always roam around your 100 m2 zone where you stay hidden, which is just unrealistic if the game considers you undetected. Out of the big space station the Alien would always patrol the area around you. Rrright... Seems heavily scripted to me. The fact that the Alien would make a lot of noise is also not in touch with the movie.
