API Overhead feature test

Compare the latest graphics APIs on your PC -

Games make thousands of draw calls per frame, but each one creates performance-limiting overhead for the CPU. APIs with less overhead can handle more draw calls and produce richer visuals. The 3DMark API Overhead feature test is the world's first independent test for comparing the performance of DirectX 12, Mantle, and DirectX 11. See how many draw calls your PC can handle with each API before the frame rate drops below 30 fps.

How to test DirectX 12 with the API Overhead feature test -

The DirectX 12 part of the API Overhead feature test requires Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10041 or later, graphics hardware that supports DirectX 12, and the appropriate drivers. You must get the video drivers from Windows Update. The drivers available from vendors' websites do not yet support DirectX 12. DirectX 12 is not yet supported on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 5xx series or older, AMD Radeon HD 6xxx series or older, or on Intel HD Graphics other than HD 4xxx series. DirectX 12 does not support multi-GPU yet. You must disable SLI and Crossfire. Close other apps that tie into the DirectX stack, for example applications like FRAPS that draw overlays. Those apps are not compatible with DirectX 12 and will prevent the test from running. With NVIDIA hardware, you must disable ShadowPlay and 3D Vision. Those features are not yet compatible with DirectX 12. Windows 10 and DirectX 12 are still in development. There may be unforeseeable compatibility problems with some hardware configurations.

-----------------------

Hmm it says Directx 12 is not yet supported with Geforce GTX 5xx series or older. So does this mean the Geforce GTX 600 series and up are supported, not just the Geforce GTX 900 series and up? Keep in mind Directx 12 is still being developed with windows 10, and it might not be at full performance yet, but it is worth using.

If you have windows 10 pro technical preview, be sure to go into the settings and click on windows update, then click on the settings for that, scroll down and find slow, set it to fast, to get more builds faster. Then click back to windows update in windows 10, select check for updates, and have it download all of them, when the pc restarts, check for more.
Some programs might need to be reinstalled, depends on the situation after the build update.

Talk to Cortana in Windows 10.
Have it setup schedules or reminders, and other things.
Not all features available yet for cortana until later release. -

To use cortana in windows 10, sign into your microsoft email account as your login, you can disconnect it to use a local admin account at any time for offline use like with any other windows. To do this, click the start menu and click on your pic, then click change account settings. Once you sign in, click the search bar near the start button on the bottom left corner of the screen, find the top left corner and click on it for options, click on the cortana options, then click on, scroll down and select on for a few other features, and set cortana to respond to your voice when you say hey cortana. Now you can talk to cortana, your windows... Say "hey cortana", wait for a response or voice, then at the right moment, say.. "reminder" or remind, to get more info on that option, and also ask cortana if she knows any jokes or how to sing, or play music. You will need a microphone, also you don't have to click anything, just say "hey cortana", it has to be clear and at the right speed, then wait for the right moment to ask more, or close the search window and try again if she didn't hear you. You can also type to cortana specific things. Once you get a music playlist in windows media player all setup, say hey cortana, and then say play music, she will then tell you that she will start the music, then say "next track" or some other similar results to get to the next song or random songs in a playlist. Cortana doesn't yet open apps for you or specific songs I don't believe until later releases.

More windows 10 and game settings can be found here.

This is an old thread, but most of the comments were proven wrong as I've said in other threads updates about it, that your Nvidia Geforce GTX 600 series and up, will use DirectX 12 in Windows 10.

Also DirectX 12 is awesome for new DirectX 12 games, why didn't DirectX 11 come with the technology for more efficient power use and more cores to be used? That boosts the frame rates in games a lot, and less power used for all computers, laptops benefit this a lot.

If you have sli, multiple graphics cards, DirectX 12 with a set of sli DirectX 12 graphics cards, allows the video memory to stack.
DirectX 11 sli multiple video cards doesn't allow video memory to stack.
Lots of great things coming for DirectX 12 and DirectX 12 graphics cards.

Have you guys seen the new graphics cards coming with HBM "High Bandwidth Memory" types? It's supposedly 9x faster than GDDR5.

The link above is kind of odd, you will need to find "Memory Type" on the left of newegg.com in that link above. Then click on "Show More". After that click on "HBM".

Save for the new Nvidia Geforce GTX graphics cards coming out next year, 2 new types of architectures coming over the next couple of years, you can find the info on youtube or other places for nvidia architectures.
The new Nvidia cards will have tons of memory, lots of performance and so much more.

AMD already has cards with HBM on it out, the new Fury cards. Second iteration of that memory type with bigger allowed stacks comes out with next generation of cards.

But the bigger boost will come when current 28nm process switches to 16/14nm Finfet. You will see maximum transistor counts going up about twofold, which also means that there is going to be a large performance increase. Current cards are really stringed out as far as they can get, with die sizes of 600mm2 (which is close to maximum for commercial graphics chips in terms of usable yields).

Yeah I know, some of those links in my other comment above, are the AMD Graphics Cards, hope Nvidia can pick up on that soon.

Although I know about some of the new ones coming next year as mention as well.

I'm really looking forward to them.

Also I'm more into the AMD air cooled desktop gaming cpu with Nvidia Geforce GTX graphics card types.
And I heard something about AMD also coming out with some new motherboards next year, it's about time. I hope they are what was mentioned about them being new gaming desktop motherboards. I'm tired of AMD messing with fm2+ motherboards, and getting left behind.
