alien isolation everytime the alien creeps by with its tail up! OMG
For me, and this is completely subjective, Dead Space is way more scary. Why? because I know the xenomorph. I've watched the movies and know how it looks. It's not slimy or gooey, bloody or insectoid. I've seen it in bright light, and just don't find it that scary or overly ugly. I know my enemy, and that really helps. I'm not scared. I've jumped once or twice, but it was more surprise than fear or terror. This is a thriller rather than horror.
Dead Space, on the other side, really strikes deep with me. I am very sensitive to things in the so-called "uncanny valley" and those fugly creatures from that game fit exactly there. They cause enough revulsion in me that it can sometimes turn into fear. Not really human, not really insect, beast or anything else, but enough of each to balance some familiarity with strangeness. Also, in real life I can tolerate guts and viscera but can't stand the smell of venous blood. It makes me want to puke. For me, all that combined makes Dead Space a hard game to play.
I don't mind being face to face with the sleek and nimble xenomorph, but I feel strongly offended by the presence of the Dead Space creatures.
