Is there a genuine way to pass humans in Mission 3?
Without killing them, that is.

After dying like TEN times(!), I finally managed to get to the door unseen, but it kinda felt lucky and unnatural. Also, no way you could evade the humans first time round, so it's a bit unrealistic that it forces a trial and error method. Correct me if I am wrong.

It's not easy, but it's possible. I can't say I got it first time out. But, I think it's possible
The last time I did it, it felt natural. I got shot at while sprinting for the door, but the guy missed.

Ah. If sprinting while getting shot at is a viable option....yeah that doesn't sound too hard. I was trying to get fully undetected, as I wasn't aware they will stop pursuing me once I make it past the door.

Also, any idea if crouching and walking has a major difference in terms of sound produced?

Finally, is this Mission 3 encounter with humans one of the harder ones to evade? I'm kinda thinking of doing a no kill playthrough.

What I can tell you is that using the Alien to kill humans by throwing a Noisemaker or Flashbang or whatever doesn't spoil the Achievement for you so if thats what you're going for it's something to keep in the back of your mind.

In area's where armed human enemies are it seems that the Alien is not popping up that frequent though so you'll have to choose what threat you deal with.

As far as human encounters go, it might be even the hardest. You can get through there totally undetected, though. Sprinting is only necessary if the last guy up there actually sees you, but with correct timing he won't. Again: There are threads about this.

Wow, that's about the hardest? Thanks! Hopefully my no kill playthrough won't be an issue.

If I remember correctly the stun baton does NOT kill humans It just permanatly knocks them out and its absolutely silent.

Unfortunately, that's not true. I got achievement progression for getting 10 human kills by using the stun baton.

The trick I learnt to sneaking past the humans on mission 3 once you grab the access tuner is to climb the stairs towards where they come from, and hide among the crates until they pass you by. There's still one guy patrolling the lounge area, but you should be able to run or sneak past him without any trouble. The alien will drop down and kill them when you get back regardless.

Guys, I would like to ask again. Are human encounters later on as "trail and error" and "unpredictable" as this first one? I have read and seen many solutions now, but all of them you cannot have possibly known on your first or second try. It involves luck and some recklessness which doesn't sit well with me (like the guy above says, go on the starts where they come from, which on first glance seems suicidal).

I have played many stealth games, and they don't rely on cheap tricks like this to remain silent and hidden and progress without killing people. I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

Also, would you say it is worthwhile not killing anyone, or is the system too "unfair" and "unpredictable" to successfully manoeuvre around them without trial and errors that I should just go in killing them where necessary?

If you mean hostile human encounters, they are present on certain levels and unscripted. A good example is in Mission 6, after you get into the operating theater. They are not necessarily trial and error: you could simply hide and wait for them to walk past, but where they appear isn't fixed. On mission 7, it's almost entirely stealth unless you actually want to provoke a confrontation with the human survivors. Most of the time, looters move in groups of 3, so keep in mind that you'd most likely have to slip past all 3 of them, and they're never out of earshot from each other.

As to your second question, I managed my first playthrough on Normal mostly avoiding killing. On my second Hard playthough, I didn't do any killing personally, but I did sometimes pit the human survivors against the alien or androids to loot their ammo. You don't get that much more ammo and items from that it makes a huge difference, so a pure stealth, no-kill playthrough is still completely viable. If anything, open combat is rarely worth the trouble, as even stunning an android and bashing it with the jack can draw out the alien depending on the difficulty and your luck.

Also note that if you don't draw a weapon, the human survivors will give you a chance to get out of their sight before they start firing. So even if you're discovered, you can just opt to back off and try again, or use the few seconds' to run past them, though keep in mind that your footsteps and the subsequent shooting is going to draw the alien out.

No, the human in mission 3 don't allow you to back out.

And you said first play mostly avoid killing. What about mission 3?

That's because in your first encounter where the woman shoots at you, that's scripted, and she will shoot at you twice no matter how quietly you entered the lobby. I managed to dodge the looters after picking up the tuner and get into the archive. When you return, the alien kills them in a scripted appearance[\spoiler].

My questions is, how did you dodge the looters? Did you really manage to dodge them first time round?
You have two ways to get past them without killing them!

If you picked up the tuner and the sequence is done turn around so that the elevator is behind you!

1. RUN the stairs up to your right, turn left and RUN to that room! STOP at the first Door and now just WALK thru the room and go to the door (just one of them is standing there looking into the middle of the room)

2. Run the stairs up to your left, you see some yellow crates to your right!
Crouch near them (the wall in back) and wait till the looters are walked thru (maybe you should press sneak and lean back and left)!
Now crouch the complete way to the door that leads you downstairs!

That's it!

Yes, I used option 2 as highlighted by DespicableMe. Generally everyone in the game have poor peripheral vision, and so long as you duck by the crates at corner and stay unmoving until they've passed you, you should be able to sneak past them. You don't even need to crouch your way past. Once they're walking down the stairs to the main hall, you can pretty much walk or even run to your objective. Even if the last guy patrolling the lounge overlooking the lobby sees you, none of them will chase after you once you go down the stairs. At point in the game, you don't have to worry about anything but your health if you're detected and shot at because when you come back to the hall, it's going to be a different scenario.

Ok, I understand. But I mean, you figured that out first time out without needing to trial and error? Seems kinda fortunate mate!
