How do I reload the flashlight

Seriously how do I? I feel like an idiot, I just got the batteries but pressing "F" just blinks how I have no batteries in it. If I press "R" nothing happens. Am I missing something obvious, I can't access anything in the menu by hitting "Q" either. Thanks for any help!

R only reloads guns. you have to hold F to reload your battery.
