AI.exe has stopped working (SOLVED)
Can launch (in non-windowed and windowed mode) via my Steam install or the desktop shortcut.

After the initial cut scenes (20th Century Fox etc), the hints on the bottom of the screen appear. Albeit to a black background. After a short while, the game crashes altogether, with an "AI.exe" message window:

"AI.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program."

I gather this has sth to do with the graphics settings. But how can I tune them down / adjust to see if that solves the issue?

Any hint appreciated! Thanks

I kinda feel this was the last game in a long time that I preordered. Most of us end up being nothing more but beta-testers ... Guess the game will be stable in a few weeks (with bad luck in months).

This one did it for me -finally! Well, made it to the start screen. Will not play the game now, as it's afternoon, i.e. zero atmo. But keeping fingers crossed that it'll work tonight.

Thank you for contacting SEGA Support Europe.
We are sorry to read that you are encountering this issue with Alien: Isolation.
Please try the following:
- Completely exit from the Steam client.
- Go to C:\Program Files\Steam (or the Steam directory that was specified during installation).
- Locate ClientRegistry.blob and rename this file to ClientRegistryOld.blob.
- Restart Steam to allow the file to be recreated.
Once that's done, start steam again and reverify your game cache as shown here:
1. Load Steam
2. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
3. Select the Local files tab and click the ‘VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAMECACHE…’ button.
4. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
5. Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.
6. We recommend verifying your cache twice to make sure all files are fully downloaded
Important: Please ensure you have all the available updates from Windows Update <http://update.microsoft.com/> for your system.
Please let us know how you get on.
Best regards,

Addendum:

I posted a reply the other day here. That got me from the initial start sequence crash to the main menu. Having been able to play for a few min thereafter, I did experience a crash once wandering around a bit.

Earlier today, I was not even able to start the game ... yet again!

So, even though my drivers were supposedly all up to date (that's what Windows 7 told me whenever I used the "Update Driver..." option), I did positively check back on the Dell page. Manually searched for a newer drive - which I strangely enough found! Why would Windows 7 not detect that?!?!

Anyways, long story short: After updating my graphics driver manually, the game right from the start looks and behaves entirely different! Able to play beyond where I was crashing before, keeping fingers crossed for later tonight.

...

Lesson learnt: Even if Windows 7 tells you that your drivers are up to date, don't believe it! Check on the producer's webpage. In the end, using their latest driver is what fixed the entire issue for me.

Hey guys, unfortunately nothing helps me out of this "AI.exe has stopped working" problem. It appears always on the same spot in the game, always crash and I have to use task manager to close it down. I tried EVERYTHING, including reinstall, verifying data and game cashe, latest win updates, nVidia drivers, even change this file in Steam installation. Nothing is working. Guys I have many games in my comp but only Alien Isolation doing this problem. Do you have another solution for this problem?? My PC performance is higher then recomended so in HW will not be a problem. I bought this game 2 months ago but I can just watch icon on the screen because it is not working properly. I have played 3 hours maximum and can not move on from one spot. AI.exe has stopped working.. This is my nightmare, I have no fear from Alien but from this issue only.. Please help me with this. Your solution mentioned above IS NOT WORKING!!!!!

but i had random crashes...
if you replay the mission, it crashed on the same spot too?

Do you mean play with Steam off line? Tried, not working, windowed fullscreen not working as well. When I restart the level it crashes randomly. When I get to that spot i mentioned before - crash always.

no, no playing offline. steam overlay is shift+tab in the game, can be turned off in the steam settings.

Heya guys,

I've just found this post because I am having the same problem. It's not stopping me playing but enough for it to be really annoying. At least once every few hours 'AI.Exe has stopped working' and a few times I've had to replay a lot to get back.

I've tried a few things but this seems to be a problem with the game and not our settings. Do Creative Assembly still fix bugs or is it too late now?

Creative Assembly are notorious for leaving games broken (though I've honestly never had any problems with Alien Isolation in almost 60 hours of play, it has been tremendously stable, just one or two minor glitches like a floating weapon here and there).

I mean, Empire: Total War is still broken as **** and that was released in 2009...
SirPsychoSexy91 Jul 21, 2015 @ 10:10pm
I know this says SOLVED, but I have to put in my concern. I have the exact same problem as Phoenix above me. I play for an hour, sometimes more and sometimes less, but never as far as 2 hours. This is because the game just freezes out of nowhere, although I've noticed the freezing typically happens when some major shift happens in the gameplay, such as the alien suddenly popping out from the vents.

I've done several things to try and fix it like: disabling vsynch, verifying the game cache, lowering the settings in game and in nvidia to make sure Performance is the focus, and I'm just about to run the game again after doing that trick that the OP posted above. No matter what it still keeps crashing. and it says the same thing as Phoenix's problem "AI.exe has stopped working"

Kinda sux how its not like other games' errors where they say a specific problem and then I can just look up that problem on the forums and perform the suggested fixes based on that specific problem. This just says it crashed....
