David Fincher's best directing job next to The Game.
Tywin Lannister being ripped in half due to having sex w/ Ripley.
Token Born Again Religious Black Guy.
Shaved head Sigourney Weaver.
$3 Million to Michael Biehn to have his face imposed on a computer screen for 3 seconds to say deceased.
Good times.
Alien is the best movie.
I could never argue with that, Alien is the big daddy. It revolutionized a genre.
I don't agree.
The words are spoken in admiration fitting the discovery of an alien species that is both able to survive in a hostile environment. The fact that its acid blood is also a defensive counter measure works in its favor in a relatively small space tug like the Nostromo. So it is a wonderfull new discovery, with survival build in and a ♥♥♥♥♥ to kill in a space ship.
Taken from out of a space ship it becomes more vulnarable to man and his weapons.
The great equalizer in Aliens are 1. The fact that the Marines don't have all the intel 2. They don't take Ripley serious and 3. They basically go in without real stopping power because they fear it might damage the reactor of the terra firming plant.
The only reason they don't get decimated is because not all Marines (Drake etc) give up their ammo and Ripley saves the survivors.
In Alien the Xenomorph uses stealth because it is alone, in Aliens there is such need. The Aliens have strength in numbers.
I can expect both movies to co-exist, cannot say the same of the other movies.
(I'm 38)
I think none of the 4 Alien movies is perfect in itself.
Rather to make a chartlist, saying whats the best or the worst,
I prefer to acknowledge in what each of tehm is outstanding.
Alien 3 was the first movie to offer a realistic Alien. Not by its intelligence, but in its motion and appearance. And yes, the atmosphere was very dark, depressing & sinister, not only due the Alien itself.
For the same reason most viewers dislike Alien 4, as it was much to 'quirky'. Especially Winona Ryder. They acted more like 'comedians', plus the story wouldnt go far beyond a 2 page booklet. The FX was very good indeed.
Alien 2 was the movie with the most bullets fired. The whole military scenario and their nightmarish, claustrophobic experience vs. the Aliens has many fans. The whole movie seems to me the most complete of all 4. You'll get a 'good package'.
Alien, the first part, would have been a masterpiece, as setting, actors, etc. are all beyond what Star Wars & Co. had to offer at this time. Only 2001: A Space Odyssey is up to Alien when it comes to setting and design. Sadly the Alien itself is in a misarable shape, when it is seen in fullscreen and motion. The most horrible part is really due its first appearance. First 2/3 of the movie are amazing, until Ash reveals his robotic nature. However the last 1/3 of the movie isnt really up to the rest.
In the end they are just movies
