CD Key "requires ownership of another product"

So, I ordered a key from cd key site Ive used alot, and theyve sent it to me and Ive plugged it into Steam and more or less get this ..

The product code you've entered requires ownership of another product before activation.
If you are trying to activate an expansion pack or DLC, please first activate the original game, then activate this additional content.

Has anyone had this experience ? Its like its a DLC code or something by mistake that Ive got, or perhaps the database on Steam isnt right ?

There's your problem. You used a shady, unauthorized key reseller. No one on Steam can help you. Contact the company. They probably sold you the preorder bonus key instead of the normal game key and it'll be a crapshoot whether or not they help you.

I doubt that it's a database error. At least all DLC's are registered correctly for this game (preordered on steam).
Maybe they've only sent you the extra-codes for the DLC's :/

lol, thanks for the heads up guys. To be fair Ive only ordered from these guys as Ive never had a problem with them before, but fair enough for your good honest replies!

Hi so the good news is that the site I was using, EliteKeys has contacted me and informed me that they had indeed sent a DLC code (Crew Expendable) and noted the second code which theyve now sent to me as well, alls well that ends well. Everything has activated and downloading now .... thank god for the 100mb fibre connection !!
