Pewdiepie's first 20 mins of Alien Isolation playthrough [Be cautious of spoilers]
No spoilers from me here. I know some people might dislike Pewdiepie's commentary, but if you're curious about how the game is like, then you can check out the first 20mins of the game on his channel.

My impression of the gameplay? Well most of the footage are just cinematics, but I liked it. Definitely captured the old-tech sci-fi feel. The writing, cinematogrophy, and acting seem to be much better than Colonial Marines. That's the most I would say out of it, and I will let you guys check it out for yourself.

I still haven't pre-ordered the game yet and I'm still a little hesitant given the track record of Creative Assembly, but this video did get me a little bit exicted about the title.

Unfortunately he's the only Youtuber so far I believe. He just recently posted "part 2" of his play through, but I haven't watched it yet because I think I already watched enough. If you're curious, the embargo for this game lifts tomorrow morning, so expect a lot of reviews coming. I believe IGN is posting their review around 9AM EST / 6AM PT.

I'd love to see gameplay. Too bad I can't stand watching that guy without wanting to kill myself.

Not super excited about IGN, but at least it's a start, thanks for the info.

Is there proof of this?

Less pixels are easier for light and shadow simulation as well as many other effects.

Well yeah the lower the resolution the smaller the area that the videocard has to render (well smaller as in less pixels)

However since we live in 2014 any low range videocard can easily handle 1080P resolution so there really is no excuse to ever use anything less.

Well, apart from the obvious, eg: screens that don't support it.

I am using a monitor LG Flatron W2442PA from ~2009 that does 1080P resolution before that i had a philips CRT monitor that did either 1600x1200 or 1900x1200 that i had in 2004.
But since its been so long ago my memory is a bit fussy on the particulars.

Most people have TV's that can do 1080P let alone a PC monitor.

Seriously those without a 1080P monitor should have to restrain themselves from buying a game or 2 and get a 1080P monitor.

It's not just about moving the pixels on their own like it was for 2D games

In 3D rendering there is a virtual 2D camera in the 3D enviroment this takes a picture by running a light and shadow simulation to work out the colour of each pixel. Increasing the pixel count multiples the work the GPU has to do.

If your frame rates are bad you can gain a huge performance boost if you lower the resolution. It's better to try a lower shadow resolution first. This means your game is in 1080p still but the shadow detail is in a lower res.

It has nothing to do with his card or monitor being able to handle anything. He's recording for YouTube. If he plays in 720, it's going to mean smaller files that are created during the recording process, less slowdown of framerate while the recording software is running, and less time uploading the finshed recording to YouTube. Most YouTubers play in lower resolution when recording.

AH now there is a sensible answer !

Though Nvidia Shadowplay ought to cut down on system requirements though :-P

Many record games at 1080p and 60fps it's the only way to see a game at it's best before you buy it. He just doesn't have the computer power to run it at that quality + the frame capture software.

60fps, yes, but 1080 is rare. Especially the guys who are also recording themselves in the video. There's quite a bit going on behind the scenes, not to mention internet connections and upload time to YouTube. Here's an entire thread on the topic I found with a quick Google search:

http://yttalk.com/threads/why-does-some-big-youtubers-not-upload-in-1080p.116814/

Basically, it comes down to it not being worth the extra trouble. These guys tend to put out videos multiple times per week, and usually in batches. Having to upload 1080p videos would slow that release schedule considerably.

Try lowering your resolution for any games and you will notice a gain in performance. Lowering the resolution means the GPU is rendering less pixel.
Fair enough

second video and still no sign of a Alien to see if the AI is good. Will Sega allow to reveal the alien in action or keep it in the dark until tons of people buys it with a risk to face disapointment, like Colonial Marines?
