Plagued with jumpscares
If they're bringing back the elements of the first movie,
then why are they putting in jumpscares?

That word doesn't mean what you think it means.

It is a different medium. Jump scares when used well can be effective. The key is that they are used to purposefully break tension adn allow another build and not be the horror itself.

Awww yiss... jumpscares mmm time to pre-order and have the gf play :rcry: ahead lots and lots of :rcry: LOL

Jokes aside, I think if you have an atmospheric game based on survival horror you need atleast one or two jumps in it to make you feel immersed. If you know at all times where the alien is, you may not feel much of the horror aspect. Just my opinion OP doc griff

A great example of a film with jump scares that add, and is a true horror film is the first Descent film (stay away from the sequel).

I think it's quite difficult to create true horror in a computer game as technology currently stands. But regardless, the videos we have seen are short snippets of play, they are not representative of being sat in front of the game for 3 hours.

It's a shame this game is not NVidia 3DVision native, that can really suck me in.

Really?
Cuz i remember the alien's appearances were sudden, there was always tension, so you knew when it was gonna happen.

Jumpscares have their places, just use them moderately and smartly and they win, end of discussion.

There are a few notable ones in Alien, SPOILERS:

When Kane is in the egg chamber he falls over but it's done as a scare tactic as the tension is running high
When they are searching the med-bay for the dead facehugger there is a big jumpscare when the dead thing falls on Ripley
When Ripley is searching for the cat when they decide to leave the Nostromo, there is a jumpscare in the room with the swivel chairs

Hm... i guess your right.
Well, let's just hope it will still share the same tension as the first movie.

the moment when the alien ambushes dallas in the duct is definitely a jump scare

honestly I don't even care. I'm going to buy any game that lets me play through the alien movie. I'd pay $40 for "crew expendable" mode alone

Ultimately it all worked and the film has incredible tension that IMO still works now.

I think part of it is the quite raw way the film is made, it seems almost documentary like at times.
