Alien: Isolation
Why no Windows Vista support?
I am not a computer specialist, but other current DX11 games such as Ryse Son of Rome, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Lords of the Fallen support Windows Vista, according to their system requirements. Why Alien: Isolation not?

(I have Windows Vista (64Bit) and Dxdiag say i have DirectX 11)

Well, how well does it run Alien: Isolation is a question an end user might ask.
Almost no different from 7, 8, or 8.1. Go up the chain and you might gain a frame here or there, but overall there's no real difference to how most games perform across the OS's.

Fun fact 3: According to most data available on the matter, Vista never overtook XP's market share at all, it transitioned directly from an XP majority to a Windows 7 majority after Windows 7's release.
Most businesses still ran XP. The reasons for this are hopefully obvious.

Most of the users who still ran XP absolutely hated Vista's UI changes and how it required better hardware to run. Come 7's release a mere 2½ years later, they all jump ship and praise it for god knows what reason, despite it removing numerous things XP had while Vista still kept them.

At its core, the two OS's were not very different whatsoever; just the UI skin over them both.

If people actually wanted to learn and installed Vista to compare it to 7, they'd see all the FUD they've been spreading all these years.

Windows x64 - Good OS
Windows x32 - Total Disaster OS
FTFY.

x32 should've died off when Microsoft released Vista.. yet it still exists in present time for some absurd reason.

System specs wont list everything it can run on it justs gives us an idea. Win XP cant run DX10 or DX 11 and is limited to 2GB RAM per app running. Vista can run DX 10 and 11 but it's so old perhaps why they dont list it is they think nobody uses it anymore.

I am assuming you have seen someone else running it on Vista then? Fair enough.

So there is support, just not official support that costs money and can mean paying to go back and do work.

Understandable for legacy platform support, and quite normal.

If you are mystified by the reasons fair enough, the only reason I was pointing it out was because you mentioned "majority share" - and it seemed relevant to point out that majority share went XP -> Windows 7

I have nothing against Vista, although I never used it at all on my own machine. Vista was pretty much spurned by the user-base, yes it was kept on granny's laptop where it probably still is now, perhaps kept by some illuminated technological savants who appreciated its excellence, but appears to have been ignored, downgraded or upgraded at the earliest opportunity by many others. Or it was unlucky and missed everyone's upgrade window. It doesn't matter, it was just never adopted as the main Windows OS by the user-base, and that seemed relevant, perhaps interesting if the discussion was touching upon "market share". :)

If you want to use Vista, more power to you - I am glad the game works for you.

Sounds like a good bet to see how 'Isolation' runs on this Vista rig once the price drops. I appreciate all the perspectives... The question of Vista compatibility did come up in the official Isolation forum and a developer elected to weigh in, flatly stating Vista was not supported, though offering no elaboration.

One aspect of this may be that some supported video card makers are not releasing driver updates as regularly for Vista as they once did, so any issues with newer games would go unaddressed for a much longer time. AMD is down to an almost semi-annual release schedule for Vista! A successful game launch probably requires active partners, and maybe Creative Assembly feels they'd be going it alone in Vista's case...so they elect to leave the operating system off their officially supported list. A guess worth hazarding, maybe.

Actually to come and think about it. I think its Microsoft responsible for all of this.

- First of all their support for Vista isn't the key factor since Hardware manufactures still release drivers for it and it has DX11 which most games even today use the standard DX11 not the DX11.x versions. Just look at Alien Isolation this game runs well on HD 5770 which is DX11 so we can throw "the DX version not compatible" argument out of the window. Also complete drop of the support is in 2017.

- Remember all the times when Microsoft says that it is gonna help PC gaming -> They say that every time when they ♥♥♥♥ up and their solution is even worse in Windows Vista case it was the GFWL. So yeah last time they said they will help pc gaming -> They will help pc gaming by persuading game makers to drop support of Vista which has nothing to do with it.

- Well speaking about Microsoft screwing up things we have XBO and Win8. Lets face it
Microsoft is fore and most OS selling company first and console selling second. But with that in mind they are doing poorly. Xbox one still it is a failure since they tryed to showel our throuts the kinect and that backfired in their face. Also there is a fact they didn't earn that much money with Xbox Brand as whole (XB,X360,XB1). And situation with Win8 doesn't help much either. And before some smartass say that windows 8 isn't a thing due to win8.1 i hope he/she realise that it is just a support pack. Which brings another thing to think win 8 is another thorn in Microsofts sides it launch was a disaster zone.

- Windows 10 is another issue in its own right. Microsoft is betting very much on it since it win 8 is a disater zone. And the leak that shown us that they will return to the traditional desktop look which resembles that of older windows like XP, Vista & 7. Which means more people will just wait for win10 or buy win7. Also with adoption rate of win8 we have to realize that unlike previous one's this transition was even more aggresive. For instance when win 7 launched i still could find win Vista or linux based OS notebooks in retail, but with Win8 there was no way i could find something like those.

Is Vista not roughly equivalent performance wise--all service packs and updates considered--to 7?
The only thing Windows 7 does better is media handling.

In everyday tasks, to the end user, there's no real difference between Vista and 7. In fact, some things are even broken in 7 compared to Vista (like HPET).

People who keep spewing the "VISTA SUX" FUD have been riding that bandwagon so long they're absolutely fine with living in ignorance and will ignore everything you say to them about it.

Personally, I stay on Vista because the UI of 7 is atrocious. It removed numerous classic features I've been using since Windows 95 and severely reduced my efficiency at using the OS. Even after a Vista theme, Classic Shell, 7+ Taskbar tweaker, quick launch re-addition and numerous other tweaks, the UI of 7 is still too bad for me to use as my main OS.
.
so, whats your opinion of windows 8 then?
So,for anyone else wondering if vista 64bit can run alien isolation, yes it can.I've been playing Crew Expendable dlc for the last half hour. The game is running alot better than i thought it would.System spec below:
Vista 64bit Home Premium Service Pack 2
4GB Memory
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 2.66GHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 2GB
Directx 11 installed

Windows 8?
Vista 64bit Home Premium Service Pack 2
8GB Memory
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 560
DX11 Installed

Game runs flawlessly for me.
Ok, so let me answer the original question:

Yes, the game works on on Windows Vista 32 Bit. I've also heard it works on Vista 64 Bit, as well.

I'm running a Intel Quad CPU Q6600 2.4GZ with Windows Vista Premium (SP2) with an NVIDA GT430. By anyone's standards, this machine is OLD and it runs the game on High settings just fine.

On a side note: To everyone who answered with those incredibly "helpful" comments about Windows 7, we get it. By this point, if those of us still running Vista had any interest in upgrading, we would have done it by now. But, thank you anyway for your feedback and your opinion. The question had nothing to do with 'which is better', but you were brave enough to give your thoughts on the matter. Kudos to you!

You can play this game in Vista.....
Vista sucks since day one :D :D :D
You are using the worst OS in the history of all OS and then you are mad when it is no longer supported in games these days. Btw Vista was released in 2006 and you can easily upgrade to 7 or 8.
Thank you for the helpful reply´s.

As long MS OS goes I worked with windows ME, windows XP pre SP2, windows Vista , windows 7, windows 8 & 8.1 and i can safely out of them all both Windows 8 & 8.1 is the absolute crap in terms daily use and gaming.
