Is Vista not roughly equivalent performance wise--all service packs and updates considered--to 7?
lol no, i highly doubt it.
In everyday tasks, to the end user, there's no real difference between Vista and 7. In fact, some things are even broken in 7 compared to Vista (like HPET).
People who keep spewing the "VISTA SUX" FUD have been riding that bandwagon so long they're absolutely fine with living in ignorance and will ignore everything you say to them about it.
Personally, I stay on Vista because the UI of 7 is atrocious. It removed numerous classic features I've been using since Windows 95 and severely reduced my efficiency at using the OS. Even after a Vista theme, Classic Shell, 7+ Taskbar tweaker, quick launch re-addition and numerous other tweaks, the UI of 7 is still too bad for me to use as my main OS.
So sad, because 7 is to Vista as 98SE is to 98, or in current times, 8.1 is to 8. If you didn't understand that: Windows 7 is Vista SE with a needlessly changed UI. Sadly, the ignorance of the market forced this to happen, and that ignorance still exists to this day.
Fun fact: Intel stopped supporting Vista years ago, yet continues to support XP even after Microsoft ended all support for it.
Fun fact 2: Vista had a higher market share for months after Windows 8's release.
But i got to say that i worked on Vista 32 bit. And as far 32 bit version goes it is in fact total garbage in comparison to 64 bit. Hell on 64 bit version i had way less compatibilty issues than on 32 bit version with 32 bit programs. Not to mention stability problemm I can count on one hand how many time "Blue Screen of Death" in Vista 64 while on 32bit there wasn't a week where i hot got BSOD at least 6 times which mostly come from windows updates.
So in other words
Windows vista 64 - Good OS
Windows vista 32 - Total Disaster OS
Those hating on it are usually just ignorant toddlers. Win 7 is better, but there's nothing inherently wrong with Vista x64.
Has anyone established whether it runs on Vista?
Well, how well does it run Alien: Isolation is a question an end user might ask. Perhaps working to find the truth about Ripley is an everyday task they wish to perform. :)
Fun fact 3: According to most data available on the matter, Vista never overtook XP's market share at all, it transitioned directly from an XP majority to a Windows 7 majority after Windows 7's release.
Worth noting if you are confused by the decisions of companies re: Vista. :)
do u even realize microsoft admitted themselves that vista is considered a bad OS?
why on earth would you stay with this piece of garbage windows?
if you insist, then accept the fact that some games will not support it.
