Help: White background with flashing false colors on game launch

The game loads fine and looks fine. First time I play it looks fine. But if I quit game then later on relaunch it, it launches fine but when I click on Continue Game or New Game, when the game itself loads the artwork is white with vibrant flashing color blotches everywhere. If I restart my computer then that fixes is for one play. But if I then close the game and try and play later I get the screen with the white background and flashing false colors again. Only fix is to restart the computer every time I want to play the game. On Mac 10.15.7. Adjusting the graphics controls in game does nothing.
