You get the shotgun shortly before it comes into significant use and that's nowhere near the end of the game.
I'm very much aware. But the OP isn't necessarily aware. So, I made a comment with the intent of hiding the fact that there's an entire nest of aliens waiting for him or her. Basically, it's really funny if a person gets the alien off of the station and thinks that things are almost over, especially since some players take 8-10 hours to get that far and may assume that that's the game.
