Yep, it's terrible that CA never patched this out and it's even worse that it seems to affect so many people. I tried to get this bug myself so many times so I'd know what causes it and would be able to help new players through it but despite around 50 restarts, doing the beginning things in different orders, I could never get this bug and see it for myself.
So yeah, nobody knows what causes this, but your best bet to getting past it is to make sure your FPS isn't going above 60. Lock your FPS to 60 then when you start, go put your clothes on, talk to samuels, talk to Taylor, go to bridge in that order.
Also make sure your FPS isn't going higher than 60 throughout the rest of the game too. It causes other problems in other parts of the game.
Nah that's not it. It's a bug related to frames per second going over 60 (but fps going over 60 won't cause the bug for everyone).
Doesn't matter which of them you talk to first.
It matters to me. I trigger that bug each time I speak with samuels first.
Lock your frames to 60 and then do it - you'll see the door open.
I've tried it 30+ times a few years ago when I was trying to see the bug for myself. I could never make it happen.
People describes lot of bugs because don't playing the game with 60 fps... but this is the only bug I noticed and I can avoid it speaking with taylor first. I'm sure you are right don't take me wrong but in my case this is the only bug I had or the only one that I was able to notice... XD so no need to change my fps in my case.
E: It doesn't matter at all if you talk to Samuel first.
I've been doing that exclusively since my first day. (Shorter route!)
And of course let them through and don’t stand in the way.
If it's not a lack of attention or the lack of 60fps, then something crucial isn't being mentioned here. This has never happened to me on 2 platforms and I've been playing it since spring after release.
Just use the save station, quit to menu then reload. Easy fix
