*Just did a little test. Caught stompy in a room in the med bay with one locked door (didn't hack it), no vent access, and one door you can shut the power off too. I locked the door to the room in which you get Dr. Morleys keycard then used the rewire panel to set off the alarm in said room across the hall. I waited for stompy to go running in then used the rewire panel to cut power to the door effectively trapping her. I pulled out my motion tracker and watched stompy move around the room for a few seconds, then she seems to have teleported into the vent as her dot moved through the sealed rooms walls and to a vent exit in the hallway.
*Repeated the experiment and went right upto the door to watch her, after a few seconds she simply vanished.
As for the teleportation, if you watch the creature it does 99% of the time move around on foot, using the vents etc. rather than just blipping from place to place, and since they bothered to do that, the teleport ability seems like a failsafe so that the entity can't get itself stuck when it can't find a path -ie something that stops game breakage.
