But the section isn't too hard. If you're worried about the alien, chase it off into a vent once and then immediately operate the computer; that should give you enough time.
Also, I found this out only after having finished the section but you should take the door immediately to the left of the torch pickup; there's a terminal there that you can use to lure the Joe away from his workstation (the one you need to operate).
Also watch out for the camera. Just sneak past it and use the rewire panel to switch it off. So long as you walk directly toward this section the alien shouldn't drop down until maybe after you have cut the door(s) open. The more time you waste the more likely it is you'll end up fighting the alien.
If you go for the full 8 swings that it takes to kill a synthetic (on hard anyway, not sure if it takes less/more on other difficulties), you will get locked into the death animation sequence where Ripley makes another couple of swings at the droid to put it down for good. This all takes too long and the alien will always show up and get you before you can hide.
Instead, walk up behind the Joe and stun him, but only beat him 6 times and then hide in the small cabinet just to the left of the desk that the computer is on. The alien will show up, will not find you and will eventually go back into the vent.
You can then pop out of the cabinet walk up behind Joe again and swing the wrench at him a further two times (you can always get two hits in before they can grab your arm, when you catch them unawares) to put him down for good without wasting another stun baton charge.
If the second assault on Joe attracts ol' Stompy again, you can just hide again when you hear him coming.
