In some way I can maybe get what you are saying but not having a map helps lend to that truly Isolated feel. You're new on a station, a monster is killing everyone and stalking you, you have no clue how to navigate the station and don't know where things are, your resources are limited. It really helps wrap it up nicely.
The levels are all very small and the game itself is entirely linear. Yes you can walk other places but it's a conscious choice by the player and there isn't much reason to do so. The map does not have the value a map in most games would have.
