Once you get to the nest there are two aliens. Actually there are potentially hundreds on the station but you never see more than two, except in cut-scenes.
*war flashbacks to the final mission of Safe Haven*
There's actually a glitch you can take advantage of to get two aliens in other missions. People were posting about it in here a few years ago but I forgot how to do it.
You see, technically there are multiple aliens on every mission (where the alien is present, at least). There's actually an alien in every ceiling vent, they're just deactivated. When you hear the alien in the vents, it's a trick. It's not really up there moving around. Instead there are multiple aliens deactivated at every ceiling vent. When it comes down it's because one of them was triggered to become active.
The glitch was to somehow get more than one alien to trigger.
Actually, I recall a trick where you could see the alien move vertically from one vent system to another by climbing a ladder right before it grabbed you and seeing it clip between floors when transitioning. I've seen a video of it but I'm having a hard time finding it again.
1. Multiple Aliens mod (aka Alien Congregation) - simply adds extra aliens to various missions, ranging from 0 to 4 additional aliens depending on the mission.
2. Smoke Isolation - adds even more aliens, and forces you to stealth by limiting you to a generous number of smoke bombs with a small number of distractions
3. Super Revolver - gives you an OP revolver with infinite ammo, that can cause the alien to run away with one hit. However adds more extra aliens to balance out this advantage
4. Kitty Isolation (aka ultra-nightmare) - makes the alien, androids and humans much tougher to deal with, and also adds 1 extra alien to some of the later missions. Some extra loot is added to make the challenge manageable.
