By canon how is a Queen born? (slight spoiler from AvP 2010)
In the Alien ending of AvP 2010 the protagonist alien character (Six) evolves into a Queen on a spaceship by itself and then creates a hive. Is this canon?

It's just strange because I've thought that Queens are born from special eggs/facehuggers. Just as Bee Queens are born from special larvae.

Basically one Xenomorph can create a hive anywhere by evolving into a Queen?

Throughout the Campaign of AVP you find containers of royal jelly. Its concidered canon for Six to have found them all. The Royal Jelly allows her to transform into a queen. There have also been events where if a Drone is alone they can induce a change into a queen if there is no way to make a queen. Its likely the alien in the original movie would have transformed once the crew was dead or incapacitated.

I like the theory based around the directors cut of Alien. When seperated from the colony, a Xenomorph will use organic material(Brett in the movie) to construct an egg that can have a queen laying facehugger inside. Dallas was to be the queen's incubation chamber. This would also fit with them being an efficent species. No matter what, as long as a single Xenomorph lives, the species will contine to propagate.

This explanation is basically equal to Simon Knight's and Dinodanny's explanation.

BUT the Royal Jelly-Theory isn't off the table, though:

(I assume they are refering to the "Super Facehugger/Queen Facehugger" by the term "Royal Facehugger".

Wait the first link states that a Human can be transformed into an egg that can produce a Super/Royal facehugger. Was that really in Alien DC? I don't remember anything about this.

Once they become a drone if they consume enough genetic material in the absense of a Queen they can also evolve into a queen. They also evolve depending on the DNA of the organisms they combine with, so if a face hugger successfully implants a larva in a predator it becomes a predalien for instance, which is a highly competitive drone sized queen capable of directly implanting lava in hosts that rapidly become chest bursters.

Its believe the predalien was turning into a protoqueen because of the absense of one on earth. So it was creating some drones to protect it while it changed into a queen. In every other depiction of the Predalien there was a queen present and they havent impregnated anything. Most breeds of alien appear to be able to transform into a queen or somehow create one themselves. Though one questions if this ability leads to the events of Alien: Isolation or if it will be present, such as running into a section where there is a Royal Facehugger loose and you must avoid it.

In AvP, the original PC version, the xeno you control encounters and is compelled to destroy a predalien it because it's like a new separate strain of evolution that poses a threat, I'm not sure if they're each 'proto-queens' or if that one was a queen, there isn't much on them but I think that's their version of a queen. Unless there's another version of a predalien queen.

In all other Depictions of the predalien it seems to be part of the hive but works alone more. It may be the only alien with a brain capable of ignoring the queen's hormonal, pheremonal and electrical orders. Though it seems like it cant control its agression making it dangerous to keep around. A predalien queen was created in "AVP: extinction" Though that one was genetically created by humans, Its likely if the depiction of aliens in that game was canon, then Aliens have 2 strains, pure and impure. Impure breeds are created when a facehugger attaches itself to another creature. Pure strains create royal facehuggers, which spawns a Pretorian no matter what the royal facehugger attaches itself too. this always spawns a Pretorian, which can turn into a queen. (and other aliens such as the Carrier and Ravanger though those havent shown up in other alien games so their canonisity is debatable). We usually get one predalien meaning their behavior is rather unpredictable. In some games they follow the queen like any other, in some depictions they are violent and will outright kill other aliens. We need to see more of it, almost all of the appearences its a one off that shows up near the end for predators to kill so.

That makes sense, so Predaliens are kind of a wild card.

I think this is a clever evolution from Alien to Queen. http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Praetorian

great info i was always curious how that queen thing worked..

i think as far as alien lore though we should stick to the alien movies and not so much the avp seen.. i feel they tend to step out of the authenticness of the alien species.. just kinda stuck to scary monsters together to watch em fight and didnt seem to care if the lore doesnt match up right

just my opinion..
