It got such a bad review from Gamespot...
I was thinking of buying this game because of overwhelming positive reviews here on Steam but recently I saw very negative review from Gamespot. It got just 6/10. WTF? Now I'm very sceptical...

having played the game before a bunch of patch drops i cant really give a full idea
but there were a ton of bugs, teleporting xenomorph where it runs down 1 corridor not enter a vent and be in front of you. and beleive me you can hear it enter vents, its not quiet.
pathing issues, certain areas were over used. the aesthetic for a station that was otherwise populated till just a week earlier, looked overly abandoned given the amount of peeps still on board.

the side missions, unlockables, all derpy and over the top.

the interface could've used a basic tweak here n there.

combat was pointless. i mean i get it, they couldn't let you just 12 gauge a xenomorph dead soon as you get the thing but the lore does confirm, a 12 gauge shell at point blank is generally enough to kill a xenomorph, 2 at short. 6? 9mm pistol rounds can. and weapons here dont do ANYTHING cept the flamer to xenos , the flamer just makes it run off...

so about the flamer, i've burned at a xeno , usually a couple clicks is enough to get it to sod off for a bit, and it not run away. so either a hit box or detection issue on several areas makes it actually useless.

the outdoor areas are painfully slow and by outdoor i mean EVA, and i mean REAALLY slow.

the following is a pick apart of the ending

The ending however is likely the worst issue, all game xenomorphs wanna just straight up kill you but then one of them goes happy slaps, drags you around 2 decks away from where ya were, and then using the flamer still have to run through a rather over the top nest area and then the ending is just sorta... welp. the final segment not actually making sense seeing how the vessal does NOT register a hull breech, the crew just stop talking and then you open a door and float in space, without issue of the gravity well.

persoally colonial marines is better than this.

Just look at some more reviews. Gamespot and IGN are the only reviewers that didn't give this game a good review as far as I can remember, and both of them recieved a lot of hate over their poor reviews of the game. The vast majority of players and critics loved this game.

The game was reviewed by scrubs at both IGN & GameSpot. Anyone here instantly notices upon reading those reviews that they both sucked at the game and held that unfairly against the game.

See PCGamer's review for the sake of comparison. I'm sure 99% of people here would sign that review any day.

It's the best damn horror game I've played to date. Is it lacking in some regards? Yes, but is it easy to overlook once you get going? Definitely!
I'd say check out some of the Let's Plays on Youtube and ignore that top commenter. Ending by saying he prefered Colonial Marines, just goes to show what he was playing this game for.

This is a perfect alien game based off the first movie. Forget the 3rd person shooter crowd reviews, they've come to see this "perfect organism" as just another turkey shoot. "lore does confirm" - that's the lore that includes incredibly bad movies like AVP and AVP2... SCREW the lore!

Ignore side mission stuff, but enjoy exploring the vast and beautiful place. And enjoy dying over and over again - untill figure out how not to :)

Better yet, watch some game footage from regular people on Youtube. You can do this and not spoil the story by watching footage from the survivor DLC's, where you have to complete objectives while avoiding the alien, because the survivor DLC's have no story content, so nothing from the main game will be spoiled (it's a good story, it's worth not spoiling).

IGN gave it a bad review because "Its too hard, the alien is unpredictable and doesn't follow a pattern"

I'll translate: "We at IGN are not happy that the devs did not pay us enough to give this game a good review and we all little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that do not know a good game unless its COD"

You'd rather trust one person's view on a website than thousands of players who probably put more time into it? Ok...well it's a very good game. It's just inherently niche. Lots of people play games for casual, mindless fun. This is a survival/horror game and it can be very stressful and tense (not "fun"), but that just means the satisfaction is so much greater when you overcome it.

This would be easily my favourite game ever if the story and characters had been more fleshed out and the experience more movie-like. That would have pushed it into the legendary category. But it's still completely worthwhile.

The game is brilliant. It's the best Alien video game ever, and the third best Alien media ever (after the Alien and Aliens movies). Unless you detest stealth games, you will love this game and it is totally worth it. It also goes on deep sales frequently, so if you're not sure just wait for a sale.

One of the best games ever, see it for yourself on youtube. Some will not like it because combat is totally useless, it's complete hide and seek gameplay and challenging your tactical skill and your nerves. No game for dumb npc slaughterer.

No where in Alien 1 do they kill it with a shotgun or 9mm, if they did they would all freeze and suffocate or be sucked into space. The Station in this game likley use low velocity bullets so not to punch holes in the station.

The seccond film James Cameron chose to invent a new alien type called the warrior which is smaller, faster far easier to damage and prefairs swarm rush tactics rather than sneeking about and laying ambushes. This was done to make a movie for action fans.

Its actually based solely off the first movie.

I got the impression they were meant to be more like drones. As you said, smaller, more numerous, but weaker. Not like the Big Mama in Alien.
