I've never used a Mac at all but you could try checking in the options menu in game to see if there's somewhere to switch from KB&M to controller.
The following controllers are officially supported for the game:
- Logitech F310
- SteelSeries Stratus Duo
- DUALSHOCK 4
- Sony PS5 DualSense
- Microsoft Xbox One Wireless/Wired
- Microsoft Xbox Series X/S Wireless/Wired
I think the 8bitdo Pro 2 isn't supported for the game especially if it's connected via bluetooth.
Unplug the controller and get used to using mouse and keyboard. It's a period of awkwardness and discomfort that all of us had to go through when we began our PC gaming journey. But do it. Once you get used to mouse and keyboard, you'll never go back to a controller.
First you can forget about other solutions mentioned here. Nothing worked. ;-)
BUT I have the same configuration (Macbook M1 + 8bitdo Pro 2) and here is how it works for me (at least wired):
- Connect your controller with your Mac with a USB-C-Cable
- Look at the bottom side of the controller, there is a switch...
- Make sure to turn this to "A"!
- Your controller now pretends to be a Sony PS4 controller
- This is supported by the game so you can play
- Make changes in the options menu of the game if needed (i.g. invert setting)
- Steam controller settings did not work, so I deactivated them
- Have fun. :-)
