...although in Alien Isolation's case there would barely be anything in it.
Here are a few of the mods that can be found:
Kitty Isolation - a hardcore mod that enhances all the enemies (sprinting Joes, ultra-aggressive alien, super-sharp humans) and makes many other minor alterations
Kitty's Nightmare - a harder version of Kitty Isolation, with additional or more persistent enemies in most missions
Smoke Isolation - a multiple alien mod with a focus on stealth using smoke bombs
Super Revolver - a multiple alien mod where the aliens can be made to retreat with a single revolver hit (not as easy as it sounds)
Alien Incineration - an infinite flamethrower mod with multiple aliens and a few surprises (also much harder than it sounds)
No% - removes the ability to use any weapons or tactical items, with the option for an extra alien in some missions.
Invisible Alien - makes the alien and facehuggers invisible
Alien Congregation - the original multiple aliens mod, with no other changes to the normal game (but with an optional patch to skip mission 9 and run during spacewalks)
Can you not roll back to some ancient drivers or something?
It could I suppose, but you'd just be using them to finish Isolation then going back to the modern ones.
You can do that in pretty much any game but it takes an awful lot of work to make it look good. You need to make new animations and whatnot, so it needs to be done by someone who knows what they're doing.
I believe there's a mod that replaces the alien with Thomas the Tank Engine
OpenCage is about the best tool to the game. It pretty much lets you edit EVERYTHING
The textures could do with an update too, other than that its still an impressive looking game even today
