Nope. It's just there as a jumpscare room. It's locked when you first see it, so when you come back you're like "ooOo, I wonder what's in there" but all that's in there is the devs laughing in your face.
That is such a hilarious idea. Maybe we should try doing this then following it in to trigger the explosion. Or even have it chase us in.
This should be possible, although when I think of similar examples of explosions (e.g Scorched Earth from the Corporate Lockdown DLC) I suspect that the alien won't be affected by it.
The explosion happens as soon as you cross the doorstep so I don't see how you would wait inside...
One thing you can do to mess with the game's scripting is to lock the nearby door to the lobby before triggering the explosion; this way the door will get unlocked instead of locked when the explosion happens, meaning you can proceed without using the sprinkler (hence no alien until much later in the level).
For example, if you were to sprint and have the alien get you the exact frame you entered the room.
I accidentally had the alien kill me invisibly in one of those tiny elevators before. When Kuhlman dies and you have to run to the little elevator, use the keycard and then hit the elevator button... I used the keycard but forgot to press the button. The alien dropped and immediately began assaulting me just as I pressed the elevator button.
So just as the game was fading to black with the loading screen I had an invisible alien doing the kill animation where he impales you from behind with his tail, then puts his hand over your face to drag you away.
It didn't load the next level, it counted as a death.
