Where is the bolt gun?
I just picked up some bolt gun ammo outside the room where Samuels dies and after finding no bolt gun in the surrounding rooms/area I'm pretty sure I've missed this gun somewhere. Where can I get it? Can I backtrack to make it there?

You've not reached the part where you find the bolt gun yet. Soon you'll be going through an area where all your weapons (except crafted items) have to be placed in a deposit box - they are taken away from you. You find the bolt gun some time after this.

Finding ammo before you have the weapon to use it with is quite common. I once found flamethrower fuel right at the beginning of the game, before you even meet Axel. It was in a box in the lobby area where you turn on the power and those people run through saying "Let's get out of here! I'm going I'm going!".

Thanks! It's kind of bad scripting if they're giving you ammo before you pick up the actual weapon.

Disagree! :p

Games usually give you ammo for weapons before you actually find them. I think it's realistic, instead of pretending that weapon doesn't exist in the game world until you pick it up. ;)

And considering the flamer and boltgun in the game are jury-rigged, it would be natural to find parts they used for ammo lying around the station - like bolts.

That's called a bug. It has no relevance to the topic at hand.
