Also, the IGN review poisoned people's opinion of it. IGN gave it a bad review because IGN needs large bribes and gifts from developers and publishers in exchange for good reviews. This is why IGN always gives Call of Duty 9/10 (or more). It's because Call of Duty devs and publishers send IGN staff on awesome week-long trips in 5-star hotels when they call for them to review their games. They give them free brand new XboX's, PS4's and PC's along with a special edition of the game they're reviewing and they get to keep it all after reviewing the game.
Isolation devs/publishers probably couldn't afford to do this because SEGA barely breaks even these days. They can't afford bribes and gifts.
On the personal note, I'm not a super big fan of the Alien franchise. I really enjoyed the Prometheus movie. As I understand, the universes are tied.
I only occasionally check the Gamespot. The only review magazine I subscribe to.
Interesting to hear about bribes.
At the very beggining the Gamespot gave it a mediocre review. The interesting thing was, that there was a divide between an official review and user reviews. The latter ones were much higher. Later the official Gamespot review was taken down and replaced by a more favorable one.
Well said. There are two good things about Colonial Marines (only 2) and they are:
1. The music is true to the Aliens score.
2. Getting to walk around the LV-426 colony with your motion tracker out like in the movie.
Everything else is terrible.
In Germany it was underrated too by game magazines and testers, after protests of gamers the rating was partly raised. Alien Isolation was too unconventional for most testers influenced by mainstream games and time pressure during testing did the rest.
As many gamers so many testers did not understand mechanics and intention of the game in their a little bit light-minded reviews (exception pcgames), most criticisms do not withstand a honest discussion, neveretheless complaining about this game is somehow repetitive like stupid politicians.
