Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation

When this game just came out - reviewers hated it
When the game just, just came out and the first reviews came, it got somewhere about 5 or 6 out of 10.

When I saw it, I though I could understand why some people may not like this game, but I also thought that was pretty harsh. It deserved much more than that.
But then that negative review was taken down.

I would describe this game as an atmospheric experience. So, probably, players who were used to action oriented experiences were dissapointed, and probably were drawn to it in the first place because of its interesting Alien setting.

Personally, I really enjoy this game. It took a bit a while to get in to it, but eventually I fell in love with it.

What are your thoughts on this?

because ALIENS:COLONIAL MARINES
It got low sales (or lower than it would have) because Colonial Marines ruined the reputation. I didn't even look at this game until a year after it came out because Colonial Marines made me lose faith in the Alien franchise.

Also, the IGN review poisoned people's opinion of it. IGN gave it a bad review because IGN needs large bribes and gifts from developers and publishers in exchange for good reviews. This is why IGN always gives Call of Duty 9/10 (or more). It's because Call of Duty devs and publishers send IGN staff on awesome week-long trips in 5-star hotels when they call for them to review their games. They give them free brand new XboX's, PS4's and PC's along with a special edition of the game they're reviewing and they get to keep it all after reviewing the game.

Isolation devs/publishers probably couldn't afford to do this because SEGA barely breaks even these days. They can't afford bribes and gifts.
Never heard about Colonial Marines. It's that bad?

On the personal note, I'm not a super big fan of the Alien franchise. I really enjoyed the Prometheus movie. As I understand, the universes are tied.

I only occasionally check the Gamespot. The only review magazine I subscribe to.
Interesting to hear about bribes.

"Reviewers" didn't hate it, IGN gave it a bad review and everywhere else gave it high scores.

At the very beggining the Gamespot gave it a mediocre review. The interesting thing was, that there was a divide between an official review and user reviews. The latter ones were much higher. Later the official Gamespot review was taken down and replaced by a more favorable one.
Well, good thing I live in cave. I wasn't influenced by the.. how do you people say it.. disappointment fallout. I just saw a new game coming out and I checked it out. Was hooked by its atmospheric, immersive feel.

You have much to learn... ACM was a game that was supposed to release years ago from Gearbox software. Development took way longer than it was supposed to and only just released in 2013.

The graphics were bad, the AI was buggy, the game was nothing like the demos and the story didn't make much sense. In general, it was a bad game. There were tonnes of development issues (seriously, just give it a Google - it's awful). The rumour was that Gearbox were using the money that SEGA were sending them for ACM to use on Borderlands.

I'm currently helping out on a mod project known as "TemplarGFX's ACM Overhaul" which aims to try and fix some buggy textures, AI, etc. It improves the game but nothing can fix the core broken mechanics.

The game is passable for a laugh on multiplayer or just for a quick run through of campaign, but it's not as good as it could have been by a long shot.

The negative reaction to the game was what put a lot of people off of Alien Isolation since it launched just a year later. All I have to say is this...

Well said. There are two good things about Colonial Marines (only 2) and they are:

1. The music is true to the Aliens score.
2. Getting to walk around the LV-426 colony with your motion tracker out like in the movie.

Everything else is terrible.

In Germany it was underrated too by game magazines and testers, after protests of gamers the rating was partly raised. Alien Isolation was too unconventional for most testers influenced by mainstream games and time pressure during testing did the rest.
As many gamers so many testers did not understand mechanics and intention of the game in their a little bit light-minded reviews (exception pcgames), most criticisms do not withstand a honest discussion, neveretheless complaining about this game is somehow repetitive like stupid politicians.
