The androids on mission 3 don't even need to be killed, you could watch a speedrun on Youtube to see how people deal with them just so you know how to do it, then copy what they do. Basically you just... don't let them see you, lol.
Speedrunners don't avoid being seen, the trick is to use a close-range revolver shot to stun them while running past.
It’s not a fighting game, even on the lowest difficulty. That being said, you sometimes need to use firearms judiciously, tactically, rather than run-and-gun. And to conserve ammo for tactical situations, use craftable items.
Generally, you’re doing stuff like:
- Using access panels to activate speakers that lure enemies away.
- Turning on radios to lure enemies into a placed pipe bomb.
- Throw flare as distraction, sneak past.
- Revolver shot to stun android, then run past.
- EMP to stun, or stun prod, then left-click to melee multiple times with the spanner.
- Pipe bomb for groups.
- Noisemaker to lure enemies to fight against each other.
- Smoke bomb to provide cover in open areas.
With respect to crafting mats, if you’re lucky enough to be full of a given mat, then slot mats into items that will be crafted later. Slotting mats is like extra storage space. Note that when you obtain an upgrade schematic, this will automatically upgrade anything you’ve already crafted.
Taking in the story, you’re walking more often than crawling, otherwise you take so much time that the xenomorph becomes thethered quite close to you. And hiding in lockers is rarely something to do (I can think of a single spot where it’s useful against a human patrol).
If the xenomorph has become tethered quite close to you, then maybe restart the level, and endeavor to complete tasks quicker, when you understand the chapter objectives.
I have played the game in Novice difficulty and it is indeed NOT a shoot and run game - and the androids simply just catch the wrench. They go down from three headshots from the revolver or one good headshot from the shotgun. And when you get hold of the bolt gun, make sure you enjoy it when you meet an android.
One advice: do conserve your flamethrower fuel, you will need it at the end! I got empty at the biggining of the last chapter - it is still doable without fuel, but have seen those double-jaws up close and personal about 15 times thanks to the empty flamethrower (and that because I did not learn how to use my crafted items well enough).
Also felt the effects of taking too long by crawling around - near the end the Alien(s) were literally breathing down my neck (and many times through it). It was intense so I do not really mind, but at some places I was just gritting my teeth because of that.
Chapter 12 is good for exploring without the xenomorph coming after you, though you must be watchful for androids and patroling humans. If you’re going with a lower difficulty, then there’ll probably be enough mats sitting around to support you tossing pipe bombs and EMP around, instead of using guns.
