speedrun is actually fun
So I never really cared for speedrunning - it is a curiosity for me at best, I like to "enjoy" a game in its own speed. Speedrunning is a different type of challenge I'm after.

Was reading about it tho, and how it ruins the game. Looked up a few videos and seen the ones where runners glitch the game intp letting them through locked doors - this sparked my interest. Started to dig after it, never really deep tho as I feel not much point to it, its more like a curiosity thatn anything else. Found however the "legit" runners, the videos of guys who go through the game doing every mission. I was like nah I can do this too.

And yeah, medical took me 2 minutes - never seen the Alien once, only when it drops down scriptedly from a shaft after you get the passcode in Morley's office and just leave it. I said to myslef this is awesome, it took me at least 2 hours to hide and sneak and whine and cry and whimper myself through this part, lets see whats next.

Could not really keep up with the speedrunner, but I thought that is not really a problem. Stopped the video here and there, back to the game, reach the same point, start the video, catch up again in game. Got to the point where you log into the computer to get the passcode for the locker next wall to get the passkey, just was in the menu of the PC, when I hear footsteps, loud hiss, and I'm yanked out of the PC, looking down, when the end of the Alien's tail just poking through my chest, staring at it paralized, then a long fingered hand obscures my vision and closes on my head.

Loading menu. Never died this way in the game before! Still grinning like a schoolboy in the girls locker :)

Looks it DOES matter if you get behind the speedrunner's schedule :-D

And it is fun! Gives a sort of adrenalin rush to run ahead of the game, trying to leave the stomping Alien behind. If you beaten the game and looking for a challenge, speedrun might actually offer some new perspective/challenge.

A nice set of observations on speed running. I've not tried it but have seen the videos. Could be a good way to get further replayability, the access to the locked doors is certainly interesting.

The NMG (no major glitches) category is a great demonstration that it is possible to play this game in a normal way but fast, no need for hiding or crouching etc.
