Advice on graphics settings, PS4 to PC | Alien Isolation
Hi everyone, I'll give you the short version... my PS4 died the other day and in need of an Alien Isolation fix, I was considering switching to PC gaming, however I'm not sure what graphical settings would compare to the PS4, i.e. medium, high, yes ignorant I know 😂.

The computer I have was bought exclusively for movie editing, I'll post specs below, just looking for advice on whether it's worth the switch or if it's cheaper just to buy a new PS4 console, rather than upgrade components to achieve similar spec.

The website "canirunit" gives it the green light for recommended on all but memory, I'd also like to record or stream gameplay, so any insight or work arounds would be welcomed.

Specs

System Model - HP Pavilion Desktop 590-p0xxx
System Type - x64-based PC
Processor - AMD Ryzen 5 2400G with Radeon Vega Graphics, 3600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
Total Physical Memory 5.91 GB
Available Physical Memory 1.51 GB
Total Virtual Memory 12.6 GB
Available Virtual Memory 2.38 GB

Hi, I'm not really up to date with pc components anymore so I did a quick search : your processor seems to have a pretty decent integrated GPU !

Most of the time for pc gaming you want a dedicated GPU, meaning a separated component. But the one you have seems "ok" for gaming although obviously pretty far from the best.

Have a look at that video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glF6cVuSynI (game benchmarks start around 9:15)

Alien Isolation is kinda old, so my feeling is that you should be able to run it with good quality, maybe even high/max settings ? It might depend on your resolution : if you have a 4K screen for example you will most probably have to run the game at a lower resolution like 1080p or maybe 720p

Also about graphical settings that would compare to PS4 : I don't know, medium / high quality probably but resolution is a big part too. On my "average gamer pc getting a bit old" I run the game at 1920*1200 @75fps and it looks gorgeous !

I wish I could help more, hopefully someone else will :)

A few things :

- on steam you can get a refund for a game that you played less than 2 hours, so you could try buying the game and see how it runs

- steam has a little tool for detailed specs : click on "Help" at the top of the window then it should be something like "system info" (my steam is not in english)

- buying a decent dedicated gpu (comparable to a geforce 1060 at least) would probably bring a lot to your configuration

Hi, thanks for taking the time to look into it, greatly appreciated, I've got a1080p monitor so should be good there. I didn't know you could try a game and request a refund, so I'll give it a go and see what happens.

I want to record games for upload to YouTube like I did with the PS4, trying out OBS with it, so maybe an increase of memory along with looking into an independent GPU is the way forward.

I had seen a post about the capacity of the motherboard and hadn't even considered that it may have limitations of what can be added. Don't need the thing to fly, just run a game smoothly with medium to high graphics and be able to stream or record footage at the same time.

Not converse in the gaming PC arena, but keen to dip my toe in, trial and error I guess, thanks again for your advice, I'll start with the buy, try and refund option.

I have gtx 1050 (rest of my specs are on my profile), pretty much a low-end pc and i was able to get 60fps most of the game on max settings.
in addition to another playthrough which i installed a mod for temporal anti-aliasing and enabled 4x DSR and still maintained a good +35-45fps with em
so in consideration of Alien Isolation perfect optimization you shouldn't have trouble running this game.

Thanks Amirite, I'll give it a go 👍

You are welcome, glad I can help a bit :)

About refunds you can even get one after more than 2 hours in some cases but then you'll have to explain why and have valid reasons. Under 2 hours no question asked I think (never used the refund option myself, this is just from what I've read here and there).

OBS is great for screen recording, but depending on your graphic card you might have other options : I don't know about amd cards but nvidia ones can record directly with a nvidia utility program. It might be more efficient than OBS if the graphic card has a dedicated hardware for it.

I stream Alien for my brothers (who are too scared to play the game) directly through Discord and it works great with no performance drop. You might be able to play and record the game in good conditions with your current hardware : if I remember correctly it can run GTA5 1080p high quality at 60fps almost constant, that's not bad :)

If you need help with that motherboard and what you can or can't plug into it let us know : steam's system info should be enough to get the model number etc

Awesome, thank you, I'll need to do a bit more digging, I've got the game now, which I was surprised when playing by itself with max graphics settings it ran fine with virtually no lag.

The only issue I've noticed is with alien death scenes, hearing the sound of the death with action on screen playing behind. I've tried changing the graphics settings right down to low or off, but the issue still persists. 😕

Game is really well optimized honestly.

Aye sure is, I haven't got the best spec, but able to run it on ultra at a lower resolution, can't believe how much better and smoother the graphics are and it doesn't take as long to load as the PS4 did.

It is amazingly optimized. I have a decent rig, not great. It runs on absolute max settings, and I have yet to see it break 10% CPU usage. GPU usage is negligible. The only other game I've played that even comes close to that level of quality is DMC5 on the RE engine. I haven't played any of the RE remakes, but I'd bet they are similarly great
