'Deep Color'
That setting seems shrouded in mystery. Before you start making claims, let me explain(I've already read many threads in these forums about what it might be):

-On a clean Windows install, after starting up the game that setting was turned ON by default for me, even though I have an 8-bit monitor.

-Turning it off doesn't seem to do anything at all, but if I were to watch the same movie in 8 or 10 bit there is a HUGE difference, and trying to watch a 10-bit movie on an 8-bit screen looks noticeably bad(massively lacking colour). In A: I, I see literally no difference good or bad.

Does anyone know why both of the above things happen the way they do? Game thinking I have a 10-bit display *and* toggling the setting doing nothing positive or negative?

I am just guessing but it sends 30 (3X10) bit RGB signal (not 24bit - 3X8) to your monitor improving colour range but only if your monitor supports this input.

There doesn't seem to be any visual difference whatsoever however. You'd think in a game with lots of dark scenes that differences would be easy to spot with 8bit vs 10bit - colour banding specifically.

Maybe you need a better screen. It’s just my guess. I can’t see much difference on my monitor if any but I much prefer 10bit on Samsung qled tv.

Screen doesn't matter, as long as it can accept 10bit signals which I assume is what the setting is. Have you actually taken before and after screenshots or is it more a placebo thing?

I know that this is an old thread but here: https://blog.frost.kiwi/GLSL-noise-and-radial-gradient/#alien%3A-isolation I found this because I'm doing a rerun right now with HDR and few things from Nexus.

Interesting testing and observations! Had no idea about the link to AA. External AA solutions should work though, I assume. Also wonder if more games suffer from this incompatibility. Perhaps some games auto-switch to 10-bit if AA is not enabled and 10-bit is available at the driver. Who really knows. I doubt it though, especially with older games.

External AA should possibly work yes but there's a very few solutions available for A:I. Only solutions that come to mind are: https://github.com/RyanJGray/aliasIsolation, Nvidia FXAA from control panel or DSR to lessen the need of AA. I don't know if the control panel FXAA or aliasIsolation break deep color though and I don't know if aliasIsolation works with HDR from Special K, Reshade or Windows Auto-HDR for example. There's RTX HDR now too I guess.

I tried DLDSR at 2.25x and I play at 1440 which upscales it to 2160 and downscales back to 1440 and it caused crazy stutter at capped ~223 FPS (G-Sync and V-Sync, 240 Hz monitor) which didn't happen without DSR. Then I tried to cap FPS lower and it was a bit better at 144 Hz but stuttering still happened, 60 Hz seemed to be fine. You also need to have desktop in 2160 or G-Sync won't turn on with DSR.

If anyone else finds this and cares: I ended up using Alias Isolation v.1.1.1 (Because of weird shadow movement on 1.1.2 like mentioned in PCGamingWiki) and Lilium's AutoHDR-ReShade scRGB. The AA and the HDR seems to work perfectly together and game looks amazing. However I can't comment if deep color is still functional.

You could just raise the gamma/brightness right, to check it?

I think that you can definitely see banding from the lights right if you zoom in a bit?

So no luck with deep color. You're going to have to choose between no color banding or no AA. So I'm choosing AA over deep color.

The link doesn't work for me, just displays a blank(white) page.

Is deep colour turned off even noticeable during gameplay vs. off? I'd imagine AA is much more noticeable during gameplay, so that sounds like a good option.

Yeah, having no AA will look much worse than some banding that you'll barely notice. Weird that the link doesn't work, should work because the share settings should be ok. So you couldn't download the jxr file? Well it isn't really a good example anyway.
